Is there anyway to turn this thing off? There are times when I (and others) make a post and want to edit it later but that stupid edit timer doesnt allow you to so we have to double post. It sucks.

No never. And, since you asked, there is no edit response time at all now!

NOW, BOW!

Ok, just kidding. I may have the power but if I actually used it, my husband would put me in the dog house.

It does seem like a reasonable response. What could be the ramifications? If we ever go back to older posts, it would be nice to know they are intact as opposed to edited at a later date.

What's the current Edit Response Time?

I think a couple hours would be sufficient. Along the lines of Erika's concerns, it would be hard to keep the integrity of a thread if people were allowed unlimited edit time.

Can edit time be different for different forums? The training log is where I would most like to see the ability to correct mistakes, and keep things clean. Or someway to give thread starters more control in that forum in case they missed a workout, put a wrong date, whatever?

At least on the training forum I can change a post if someone ever needs help with that, you just have to PM me. But thats the extent of my powers.

I think the response timer is irrelevant, I think it's set up, and so it should be, that once a response is given, you can no longer edit.

What do you mean by the integrity of a thread? Sometimes people post things that they regret sometimes people make errors. The former could stop flames the latter is just convenient and doesnt clutter up the board with double posts.

I think the current window is 10-20 minutes. Not really sure. I know that I don't want unlimited edit times. What she means by integrity of a thread is that if you are truly going to maintain a "thread" or a line of thought, editing a post that changes the entire context of its original meaning could make the rest of the thread not make sense.

I can't make the edit windows different for each sub-forum. If you do with to edit something just contact a mod in that sub-forum and request that they edit. I will get on my admin control panel and toy around with this... See if I can extend it a little. I won't disable it though. If something is that bad, contact a mod. Otherwise, consider what you are saying a little more before hitting the post button. Like in real life, once its out there, its out there.

I think the current time is 10 minutes. Correct?
I concur on the usefulness of response time being longer. Sometime I just posted some crappy grammar or unclear statements which, upon further reflection, Iwant to make more clear. A bit longer would be nice. Sometimes, I get locked out while I've been editing, then my work is for naught.

This is what Im talking about.

I dont think what youre suggesting would happen given how it doesnt happen on other boards with unlimited editing times.

I raised the limit from 10 minutes to 40 minutes. Have fun editing! BTW, if you really do need something changed or removed make a request to the mods of that forum. If it is reasonable, then they will happily edit the post for you.

GQ, is there a specific post you would like for me to edit for you now?

Thanks JP. I think it was a good suggestion. I got cut off mid-edit myself a few times. 40 minutes will be plenty.

HEY! where'd you get that emoticon? It looks suspiciously similar to the metro-style ones over at Men's Health.

I have to concur. I tend to be compulsive about grammar and spelling so the extra time is welcomed.

By the way, I think that was a great idea GQ and thanks to JP for making the change!

No its not terribly important anymore, but I just find it annoying as others do when posts try to get edited and then the timer runs out.

Gracias JP for the additional time. I find I had the same issues in a few forums as well (I'm spelling anal). 40 mins is more than enough time.
