This post is only indirectly about political issues, so it may be appropriate for “off topic,” without inflaming partisan passions. I’ve just discovered Capitol Hill Blue, an online website that describes itself as “a non-partisan, take-no-prisoners political news site launched by ex-newspaperman Doug Thompson in October 1994.” Thompson is “joined by a rotating group of current and ex-newspaper men and women who wander in like the homeless. Some still work for news organizations and use Capitol Hill Blue as an outlet for the stories their outfits don't have the guts to publish.”
Seven days a week you can reach the current issue at--
http://www.capitolhillblue.com/
or you can sign up to have CHB’s newsletter in your in-box every morning.
Here are excerpts from some recent articles--
“The director of religious outreach for the Democratic Party says she resigned this week because of criticism over her support for removing the words "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance.”
“Campaign mail with a return address of the Republican National Committee warns West Virginia voters that the Bible will be prohibited and men will marry men if liberals win in November.”
“With messenger bags querying ‘WWWD?’(for What Would 'W' Do?), pink tank tops bearing Teresa Heinz Kerry's ‘Shove it’ remark and T-shirts boiling your choices down to ‘Great leadership versus great hair,’ the 2004 election has fueled an explosion of in-your-face political gear.”
The news items do seem to be even-handed and not biased in any particular direction. But the website also includes a lively “ReaderRant” feature in which various of the 3500+ members of CHB comment on news items and debate matters with one another. The exchanges get pretty rough at times, proving what a polite bunch Jean-Paul’s folks really are.
But “ReadersRant” has a very familiar look.
Take a gander and see what you think!
