1. Grab a calculator. (you won't be able to do this one in your head)
2. Key in the first three digits of your phone number (NOT the area code)
3. Multiply by 80
4. Add 1
5. Multiply by 250
6. Add the last 4 digits of your phone number
7. Add the last 4 digits of your phone number again.
8. Subtract 250
9. Divide number by 2
What answer do you get?

In case anyone isn't as much of a dork as I am:
Assume x = first 3 digits, y = last 4 digits
( 250 * (80*x + 1) + y + y - 250 ) / 2
<==>
(20,000*x + 250 + 2y -250) / 2
<==>
10,000*x + y
So, naturally, since your first 3 digits of your phone number are in the 4-6th positions, multiplying by 10,000 puts them there correctly

Ha! I started doing the same thing before I saw your response. LOL. Score a few for the NU grads - they do graduate 'em smart - or geeky - there.

Ugh, I get the hard part right and the easy part wrong; I mean that the first three digits are in the 5th-7th positions, but you all know what I meant when multiplying by 10,000...
It's like making the hard shots in pool and missing the easy straight one

You do have a way of taking the fun out of things.

I'm with you, ODBsgirl, sitting here with a big "duh" face on.
My wife was a math major, and my 2-year-old daughter counted to thirty at breakfast this morning, so they are both well beyond me.
