Under the title of 'superfluously silly, but fun', I just saw this. I'm not there yet, but your 40s are now the old 30s, apparently. Feedback? Ladies - how's that list look to you? Guys - who's missing and who doesn't deserve to be on it?
The 20 Best Looking People Over 40
George Clooney and Sandra Bullock are getting on in Hollywood years, but they topped a poll of the world's most attractive 40-year-olds.
The same week this U.S. poll listed the top 20 most attractive celebrities over 40, a U.K. poll of 1,000 men and women claims 40-somethings are enjoying the best sex ever, reports the Glasgow Daily Record.
Call it the naughty '40s.
Those in their 40s feel confident and creative about sex. Specifically, 42 percent believe they are "wiser" about sex after all these years. Fully 36 percent of men, but just 11 percent of women, said sex in the '40s was "better than ever."
The most attractive 40-something men:
George Clooney, 43
Brad Pitt, 41
Johnny Depp, 41
Mel Gibson, 49
Tom Cruise, 42
Clive Owen, 40
Nicolas Cage, 41
Gary Lineker, 44
Simon Le Bon, 46
Gary Oldman, 46
Of the guys, I'd be surprised if more than 1 or 2 had. Of the women, I couldn't hazard a guess. Some people DO have good genes and look good as they age, you know. I personally know a handful of people who look incredible in their 40s and 50s who have never 'had any work done'.

On the other side of the coin, good chiropractic care is also essential in maintaining good looks and health.

There are people who look younger than their age. I like to think that I'm one of them
But Hollywood stars (especially women) are banking on their looks in many cases. I'm sticking to my guns. I'm willing to bet that most of the actors in that group (I suppose that a soccer player like Lineker would have little need for cosmetic work) have had work done. I'm not much of a movie buff and I don't really have time to look up their pics right now, but I'm familiar with most of the male actors in that group and can think of only one (Cage) who is balding. Coincidence? I doubt it, but maybe I'm wrong on all counts. I'm also willing to bet that most of the actresses have had facelifts and/or Botox injections.
Self selection Russ. Hollywood draws out those genetically predisposed to looking good, and many of those to aging well. I'm sure a lot of people get surgery, but as a group, I'd be willing to bet that they age better than the average population as well. The business is looks, and if I can find people here in the midwest like one of my friends who is 55 and looks beautiful, I'll be willing to bet they can find them in Hollywood.

Self-selection plays a role, but it's not the whole story. Keep in mind that there is likely little pressure on your friend to maintain a youthful appearance. The same is not true of actors/models/etc.....There are good reasons that LA, NYC, and Miami are the Cosmetic Surgerty capitals of the US. Another possibility is that if you met any of those on the list, you would be surprised at how much older they look in person than on TV (I've had that experience).
The picture's a bit blurry, but I would have guessed 47.

On the topic of self selection again (my edit time for the previous post has passed), the Hollywood stars on the list could be self selected in the same manner as Barry Bonds, Jose Canseco, Jason Giambi, etc (all of whom are legitimately great athletes)...Oh, wait-- Bonds only used some ointment given to him by his trainer.
I'm 48, I may look my age... But some guy at the gym, that I knew a long time ago and hadn't seen me in eons said, that I looked better than I did 20 years ago ... I hated the guy 20 years ago, LOVE the man now !! Kidding of course...
If I were rich and famous I'd pay to get a few lines off my face, more power to them if they can afford plastic surgery...
Botox, no way! At least not for the actors, botox "fills in the cracks" as it were and reduces/eliminates facial expression. Other "tricks" maybe, Botox- no way!
I think that also have a personal trainer, a dietician, a rub the facial moisturizer on you butt team, also helps. Add to that PRESSURE to keep in shape (I do not think you will see many of them super-sizing a Mickey Dees), And serious make up, good photographers, the works.
I would suspect that there is little "cosmetic work" in that group (especially the men). (though Brad Pitt in troy looks like he might have been training with Barry)
Cheers
Peter

Yeah.. I also don't look my age. When I was 20 people said I looked 25 and now when I am almost 30 people say I still look 25. And mind you NO BOTOX for me.LOL

You make a good point. I still stand by my original bet that most have had some sort of cosmetic work done, though I'd pay up if I lost the bet I think that it's a comparable issue to the use of performance enhancing substances in sport (not including the legalities---I mean it in the sense that they will do what it takes to stay ahead).

There's something else to try. Some time back, a dermatologist whose main specialty was cosmetic dermatology gave me several laser treatments for an angry-looking rash on my ankle. She also prescribed some facial moisturizer made by Hylunia and not available OTC, containing hyaluronicacid (the same stuff that makes babies' butts feel smooth). It's very, very expensive, but it smooths out skin quite remarkably. And BTW, 70 is the new 50.

Three Big Thumbs Up on these!!!
And yeah, put Diane Lane in there (Sharon Stone is DONE!)
I got into a conversation with a few people the other day about older women. My friend Jason said that the "half plus six" (i.e, half her age plus six) is the minimum age for you to be to find a woman hot. I'm half (or less) the age of these women, so I don't know what he's talking about. Then a girl who we were with said she wants to f**k Sean Connery, who is just on this side of the grave. I think women are more perceptive than men that more than youth is involved in sexual attraction.
And RH, you are totally right.
Most fans of Lance dislike her though.... she seems to have, umm, undue sway on is life, and they don't like their idol to be possibly unfocused.
Hey K, say what you will about Crow but at least she might have inspired LA to come back for a crack at #7 this summer!
