Some media outlets are now using the term 'accidental'. Seems there was a second rope.
Quote:
A member of the emergency crew who was called to the hotel after a maid found Carradine told CNN that a yellow nylon rope was tied around the actor's neck and a black rope was around his genitals. Police later confirmed that information
But here's my question. Say you're a freaky dude in some Best Western in Southeast New Mexico. I might could begin to comprehend why you might search for unconventional methods to satify your more eccentric desires. But if you find yourself in Bangkok freakin Thailand and feel an itch that you need scratched, it is my understanding that one can can contract a female human to perform a variety of services more or less legally at a reasonable price.
Although, who's to say all of this wasn't part of some elaborate setup he had with one of said contractors who subsequently found the big wad of unattended bhat in Mr. Carradine's wallet to be more attractive than the septugenarian tied up in the closet.

That assumes part of the thrill isn't the inherent risk involved.
Indeed it does. If one enjoys regularly getting a buzz from nearly dying, I'm not going to spend too much time trying to understand that.
Depends how you define 'nearly dying.' Lots of hobbies and activities have a chance of dying. Obviously the scale slides up and down, but each person had their own definition of 'nearly' I would think.
For example, I've surfed since I was 5ish years old. Dying never even crosses my mind, even when dealing with large surf. I have friends who will never ever try to surf because they consider going into the ocean where there might be sharks as nearly dying.

I don't disagree, although I would imagine few reasonable people would draw much of a comparison between any number of potentially hazardous recreational or occupational activities and experiencing a physiological effect that is brought on by purposefully restricting the oxygen to your brain. It's all a matter of risk/reward, I suppose. Since I don't get the value of the reward (and don't care to find out) the risk, which by necessity comes perilously close to actual death, seems to pretty much peg the meter on the "not worth it" scale.
Surfing, riding motorcycles, or getting out of bed every day all carry a measure of risk, no doubt about it.
