Francis Copolla has a red blend, Rosso, zin-syrah-cab, which I found at the state stores in Washington. $5 a bottle. A really great value, and a little different tasting than a standard Bordeaux mix. You may want to see if it is available where you are.
they have Copolla at the grocery store next door - I'll look for this the next time I'm there (which is nearly every day). Thanks. I'm always on the look out for a "house red" that isn't a big bad Cab.
My wife and I went through a wine phase when we first got married. We assumed drinking wine was more grown up. But, I have never been able to find a wine that tastes better than a good beer. I just don't get the wine thing.

It's okay, who says you have to grow up anyway. Just tell me you're not drinking Bud Light. j/k. I like both (wine and beer--but NOT Bud anything). Red wine more than white and that zin-syrah-cab blend sounds good...I'll look for it today.

Actually, I do normally drink Bud Light. It's a fine beer at a good price. I'll drink micro brews when I'm out of town to get the local flavor, and we have one really good micro brewery down here. I have a few other beers I'll have when I'm out, but I usually keep it simple.

What's the microbrewery?

I know what one is, I was asking which one in Alabama he was referring to.
Old Towne. http://www.oldetownebeer.com/. They've been in business for a few years now, but were on hiatus because of a fire. Because of crazy Alabama alcohol laws, they can't server it in the same place it is brewed. So they just sell to local bars and do some bottles.

Did you go to a local wine store that has someone who could guide you to find something that you like? How about food pairings? A filet plus a big zin is about the closest you can get to heaven on earth
It helps to have someone who knows about wine walk you through finding what you like. I'm fortunate to have a couple friends who are really into wine and they have helped me a lot.
Also, I'm not sure I'd call Budlight a 'good' beer Try out something like a Rogue Dead Guy.

I have not. I've never put any effort into it. Maybe I will one day.

I know there are alot of haters, but Bud Light is pretty good, is readily available, and is cheap. That combination works for me most of the time.

Part of the fun of wine is the self exploration you do. I'm always on the lookout for bottles that I like for $10 or less. This means I end up drinking a lot of so-so wine, but it's worth it when you find that inexpensive gem. It does require some effort on your part, but I think for most wine drinkers that is part of the enjoyment of drinking wine.

If all you're looking for is a cheap way to get drunk then any of american light beers will satisfy that goal (even cheaper would be some low/mid-shelf vodka, but many people dislike liquor). I prefer coors light for this because at that point the goal is to have as little flavor as possible, and to me coors light tastes like plain carbonated water.
Just don't confuse the goal of getting drunk cheaply with the goal of drinking a 'good' beer.
BTW, most grocery stores, at least in my area, carry some pretty good beers. If you have a Whole Foods nearby they tend to carry a lot of very good beers. There are also a couple local bars that carry over 100 different beers. I haven't tried them all yet, but I'm working on it

He really likes the Coppola merlot,, but it's usually closer to $20 for a bottle. He also recently found a very nice Excelsior cabernet that he is enjoying.
We went to a local art festival over the weekend, and he sampled some local wines that they were selling there. He picked up a nice cabernet and a zinfandel from Sand Hill Vineyards. Didn't see any art we fell in love with,

There's a pretty big difference between chugging beers to get drunk, and having a couple after a day of working outside. I personally just don't see a huge difference between drinking a Bud Light and drinking a beer twice it's price.

Yep, it was delish! Although I think you drank most of the bottle, Tom. Wish it had been open Saturday night!
Hey I offered but you only wanted one tiny glass as I recall. Only reason it wasn't open on Saturday was lack of a corkscrew. (Next year will be better prepared...)
