Ok, So I've got a birthday coming up fairly soon and well usually every year I look forward to my birthday and like to have a big party or like go out with all my friends. This year it's weird because I don't really want to do any of that. I wanted to just go away somewhere with my girlfriend (unfortunately, due to both of us being in school & money we weren't able to plan anything).
I feel like such an old man because all my friends are looking forward to my bday but I don't really have any interest in it this year. I mean I don't even know what to tell people to get me as gifts when they ask what I want...
Oh well, it'll be over in a few days, and I'll be another year older...
Never! I now celebrate the fact that I've made it another year by treating myself to a nice steak dinner (home made of course) and a nice bottle of wine. I've asked my wife to just not make a big deal of it and we've turned it into a date night. So I look forward to it as it's a nice way to just get some QT with the wifey.

Eh. I've been rather meh about my birthday since I stopped getting presents (so like 14?). It depends on the year and if people are actually free to come out and play versus years where everyone ditches me (although that year was one of the better ones, cuz the strippers were pretty awsum that night).
But, I'd have to say after 18 burthdays were no big deal. 21 was a letdown (hint, don't move to a new time zone 4 days before your birthday, and don't "celebrate" at olive garden), and mostly after that I'd just as soon not bother as worry about it.
Yeah, I'm hitting 23 and I'm really just not looking forward to it...My buddies want me to go out and party, but I'm at the point where I'd prefer to do what Eric said and just spend some QT with my gf.
I was born on Jan. 11, so my birthdays were always after the Christmas holidays when everyone was low on cash, partied out and trying to survive the cold winters. Consequently, my birthdays never seemed very important. When I got married, my wife's family were really into birthdays and they made mine very special. Ruth continues to do that with a weekend away or a great place for dinner. My upcoming will be the big 60 and she already has something in the works.

I guess it stopped being a big deal when I got into my late teens. As with many things in life I wish I could be given the chance to go back to one of my "little kid birthdays" just to relive the joy and excitement that it produced. *sigh*
Can't remember that far back. I started making my own birthday cakes (cheesecake) in my teens. The last birthday I especially looked forward to was 25 because car insurance rates drop. So, there, you still have that to look forward to. And I started having babies at 21 so those were the birthdays that mattered. People get you presents? I feel like a crappy mom, now. My older daughter turned 24 in July and all she got from me was a lousy phone call.
Similar to Eric, I look forward to a nice dinner with my bf. And his birthday comes up soon after and we do it again. Maybe you are just growing up. When did you stop waking up at 5 a.m. on Christmas morning?
I can't say that I look forward to my birthdays every year, but I never dread them. If it's a happy time in my life, it's going to be a good birthday, although I've had down times and had a birthday party lift me up, too.
At 23, you're not getting old. Are you feeling down or something?
Oh my! only 23???!!!
Talk to me in 25 years ...........oh wait, I'll be probably be dead....: ) I'm just teasing you......
Son, you have your entire life ahead of you! Celebrate each and every day, even birthdays!!!!
For his 50th, my husband and I ran with the bulls in Pamplona and cycled the Pyrenees mountains! You are never too old or young to celebrate your life.
Go have fun!
