Does anyone here have a Kindle or know of anyone that does? What do you/they think of it? Pros/Cons??
My Mom asked if I wanted one for christmas as I go through a book to two books a week and I didn't know much about it. I looked into it and it seems really cool and very convenient rather than lugging books and running out of bookshelf space. I'm still going to buy some books cause I love hardcovers, but it seems pretty useful.
I think Stingo has one. I've been seriously considering getting one. Like you said, it looks ulta convenient.
The caveat: I think I've heard complaints about the DRM expiring on your book purchases, so you may find you can't reread a book you bought.
Also, some people complain about the placement of some of the buttons.
My chief worry is the internal battery. I like to buy things like that with durability in mind. If the battery loses its ability to hold a charge, it's kind of disposable.
I've had a Sony e-Reader for a couple of years now, which is similar. You may want to look into that as well, for comparison; they work a little differently. The only thing I don't like about the e-Reader is that a lot of books I'd like to read aren't available on it; I don't know if that's an e-Reader things or the author's decision, though (for example, I heard that J.K. Rowling said she would not have her books available in e-book format).
I think there is a coupon code, something to do with Oprah, to get $50 off, think it may expire Friday. There are rumors that a new version may be out before Christmas. Thinking about getting one type or the other for my wife.
I'm surprised that they haven't caught on more. I've never seen anyone else with a Sony e-Reader and only a couple of Kindles, and I live in a large city (Chicago).
I read a lot (1 book at least every few weeks, more often if I read at home) so an electronic reader made a lot of sense for me. Plus, I usually only read on the train to and from work and my bag is a lot lighter now without having to carry a book around.
My prof actually brought one into class the other day. I was really impressed with the readability. It's also very cool that you can get books and newspaper subscriptions wirelessly.
I would definitely borrow one and try to read a book on it first, before you purchase one. Although it looked nice to me, I only used it for a minute or two.

I've been intrigued by them since my sister let me borrow hers for a couple of weeks back in January. The screen's great and, over-all, I enjoyed using it.
I had only two complaints -
1. The on switch is on the back of the unit, requiring you to partially remove it from the protective jacket to turn the thing on.
2. The page-forward button occupies too much real estate on the right-hand side of the unit. As a result, it is too easy to inadvertently page forward.
I've been on the cusp of buying one for a few months now, but have continued to procrastinate. Someday......

Why is that? Is it tough on the eyes or something?
