Default Computer Question-No Sound

I've lost all sound on my computer, no "You've Got Mail", no beeps, won't play cds, can't hear audio content from INTERNET. I've double checked all connections. I can hear the little bit of static when I turn the speakers on and off, but that's it. If I try to adjust volume at control panel nothing happens. It's as if the cursor arrow doesn't exist. I did replace the printer earlier this week, but I'm unsure if the problem existed prior to this or not. Any ideas?

Try uninstalling the printer and doing a "system restore" to a restore point/time prior to the installation of the new printer. If that works, the printer was probably the source. I understand it's not an uncommon occurrence to have problems arise in other systems after the installation of new hardware.

You might also try reinstalling the driver for your sound system. The specs for it and who manufactured/created it are there somewhere in your computer and they probably have a site where you can re-acquire the driver.

You can also simply try Googling the problem. I've found quick fixes to several problems I've encountered this way.

Thanks, I'll try those when I get home tonight.

I got it fixed last night. I had to uninstall and reinstall the sound card. Thanks again for your help.

Sound cards give me the biggest headache of any computer component. Good to hear your issue cleared up. I didn't offer advice because I had none. Usually, it's just a trial-and-error process for me that almost always ends up at the sound card.
