Default Help with mac decompressing .ape format

[geek question alert]

I searched Monkey's forums, and they all go way over my head.

I have something I need to decompress that was archived using .ape (which is good since it is lossless), and they talk about it being able to work on a mac, but I see no links for downloading it.

Does anyone in here have experience with that?

/geek question

Never done it, but according to Version Tracker these things handle it.

Cog
Music Box

Crap... I didn't understand but now I do. It's just another format, not a compression type. I did download Cog, which does play my music, but I don't know how to convert it into an MP3.

I couldn't tell you how to do it in Cog, I don't know it. But, if you can burn as CD audio (wav) then you can just re-rip it as mp3. That's what I do for the stuff we get on itunes, cuz the car only plays mp3.

Bad joke before the holiday weekend:

Q: How do you decompress an ape?

A: Give the monkey to Mahler and let him throw it into outer space.

My bad, I didn't realize you wanted to convert... I need to work on those reading skills.

This is the google search I did: mac convert ape monkey audio to mp3 - Google Search

My network is really slow right now so it's hard for me to find all the links.

The first result mentions something called xACT that supposedly does it. Version tracker has a page for it. That's where I'd start to find a download... I just can't seem to get to the page right now.

Aoife's right about her process working for DRM stuff from the iTunes store, but I think the problem is that the two programs I linked before don't let you burn an audio CD of the monkey audio file. If I'm wrong you could try that, too.

Good luck.
