Just, WOW!
I have always seen this argument made based on health and medical costs, but never translated into things like additional fuel costs. 18 extra gallons of fuel per year for an extra 20 pound gut. Amazing.

I'm not sure how accurate those numbers are, but it's still pretty intriguing to think about. It's one way to combat rising fuel and health care costs. I really get fired up when grossly unhealthy people complain about rising health care costs over a burger and cig.

I'm pretty dubvious of these 'beating up fat people' articles - they generally are mean spirited, and usually turn out to be wrong. I waste energy and the medical system my way as most of us do, and fat people do it their way.

Generally an increase in life-span corresponds with a decline in procreation. Maybe it would balance out?

I do take issue with the article's lack of explanation about how it got its figures. But since it was just meant as something to think about anyways, I suppose the actual facts aren't entirely necessary.

I heard there was a county sherriff in Arkansas that was making a dent in the obese prisoner population. It's a start.
