Isn't that a surprise? The kid who grew up here, learned so much form all of you about fitness and nutrition. The kid that started the fitcast from this great forum, is not going into the fitness industry.
I have an even bigger passion for video games then fitness and nutrition. So I decided to look around for jobs and internships in video game journalism. I made some writing samples, did some videos, articles (one of which was picked up by a major site) and a podcast at redzonegamer.com
After all of that, and two months, I have an internship/job at GameTrailers.com, owned by MTV. I leave from Boston to Santa Monica/LA June 6th. I will be covering video game press events, previewing and reviewing games for gametrailers.com.
For those who are in college, just keep in mind, you can do anything, no matter what it says on that degree.
Now that I will have a desk job, I should have some more time to spend here. I hope to see you around.
Any JPers in Santa Monica? Kuri? know where I can get a cheap gym membership in Santa Monica?
congrats Kevin that is a great gig. Just promise not to get sucked into the PS3 bashing like all the others at GT, show them the way to the true next-gen system

Well, I got a PS3, and to be honest, all I play is MLB 08 on it. Everything else is on the 360. I have been able to go back to some old games like God of War II I missed out on and Shadow of the Colossus.
The guys there are pretty cool so far for what I have seen. About eight of us total in the office now for the site's content.
Congratulations Kevin, a job that you truely enjoy right out of school is a rare thing.

Cool news, Kevin. Surprising indeed, considering the time you've put into the fit-cast. It's great to have so many options available, and even better that you're pursuing something interesting.
How are the 24 Hour fitness gyms? I can get a 3 month member ship for $150, which is pretty good.
They vary dramatically state-to-state, and even city-to-city. I liked the ones in Dallas, but have been underwhelmed by the ones in Houston. I especially wasn't overly excited by the two I used in the LA area. But they are affordable.
Glad you've got a direction you're passionate about mate. Good luck with the move.

I guess I will just check it out before I sign up, anyone in the area have any other suggestions for gyms? All i need is a weight room, someplace to squat, deadlift, bench, and DBs.
As long as the 24 fitness has that I will be fine, also the MTV building as a fitness center, so I might see how much it costs to use that.

Congratulations, Kevin! Great news for you.
I'm not in Santa Monica, but let me know when you've settled in a bit and we'll get together.

Sounds good Roland! Dinner? You buying?
And to me, yes, this is more interesting. One problem that I thought I would face in the industry, is that I am not like other who will read Super Training before bed. I would rather play Halo 3.
I want to be the best at what I do, and I think I have a better future with video games, either writing, or later on working on a development team producing or with the community teams.
Wow, Kevin, that's really cool. I always thought you were going to make a career for yourself in the fitness industry. I'll be sad to see the FitCast end (if it does) -- maybe you'll have to hand the torch off to Jimmy!

If I stop doing the FitCast it would most likely die. Jimmy has 0 computer skills. He doesn't know how to record it, edit it, ect.
Like I said I can promise up to Episode 100. That will put us at July I think. I might know my future job situation by then.

Congrats on the gig Kevin, and welcome to town.
If you don't mind shitty then yeah there's a 24 Hours on Ocean Park, a Bally's on Bundy (down the street from MTV), and of course the legendary Gold's in Venice is pretty cheap - CW trains there some, you should have him hook you up.
Are you gonna be in the MTV building? That's right down the street from me. Don't know how the in house gym is outfitted but it'd be worth checking out if it's free.

The fitness industry will miss you, but I'm glad you're going to be doing what you love! And the fact that you're looking for a gym means you don't plan on giving up the fit lifestyle, either!
I want to thank you for all the work you've done for The FitCast. I've enjoyed it a lot (and it was through The FitCast that I found out about JPFitness! hahaha). I'd hate to see it go, and I'm sure there are plenty of people who would love to keep it going (I don't know much about podcasting, but I would be willing to learn!) -- Jimmy doesn't have to do everything!
Best of luck to you in your future.

Thanks for the kind words Manny.
I don't know about the future of the show. I make no profit off of it, and ti takes 5-6 hours a week to produce, record, edit, post, ect.
Who knows, I might hand it off to someone I trust, but as it does have my name on it I feel very awkward about the thought of someone else hosting/controlling it.
