My girlfriend (of about 2 years) is graduating next month from college next month and I would like to get her something nice. Right now I have no ideas of what to get her, any suggestions?
Most schools have nice, read expensive, diploma display frames. Personal enough for a girlfriend, maybe not.

A trip for two to a south seas island.....one way, of course.

I got a really really expensive mont blanc pen for graduation and thought it was cool, yes, but I've never used it in a year in a half of owning it. Chances are, I won't either - but that's just me. I got a great watch from my Dad - I've used that some, (it's too fancy for every day) but my favorite gifts were new luggage (my job has me on the road 24/7), a gorgeous tiffany necklace that I wear all the time, and a gift card to sephora so that I could get a makeup overhaul. It sounds stupid, but I only used to wear lipgloss and I since I was working a "grown up" job, I needed makeup to help make me look at least a little more "grown up".
It's SO pretty a.) I'm afraid of breaking it b.) I don't want to lose it c.) the ink refills are ridiculously expensive and d.) it's not "me" at all - I'm fine with a sharpie - plus then I can color-code things. edit, i did write the thank you note to the person with the pen, it was pretty heavy as well!
a. they're built to last - you won't break it!
b. definate possibility!
c. the ink takes FOREVER to run out. papermates and bics dry up really quick, but a mont blanc, cross, parker or waterman will last quite a while. i have a pen I've been using almost exclusively for over a year, and it still writes just fine with no refill yet needed.
d. that's an issue. pens should be an accessory that reflect your personality (see pics below). Regarding the weight, Cross makes many pens now that are specifically sized and weighted for women. ie. they're lighter and smaller to fit better in the average woman's hand.
pens gina may like:

hahaha Chris, you're too funny!! I'm sticking with my "hampton inn" pens for now (they write well, and if I lose them I don't feel bad) although the susan g. komen pen was cute!
back to the original topic - keith, what is her degree in? does she have a job lined up? (they both may help decide on a present)
That sounds great. I may add that to what I'm thinking of getting her right now which is 2 tix to see Grease (her fav. movie) on Broadway...But I mean if you can help me with 60% off, then I mean I really couldn't turn that down.
Anyway, I'll IM you when I get home tonight...off to kung fu.
Gina, why, might I ask, have you not used the pen. Fancy pens write SO much better than the cheap ones. I could never go back.
I don't agree. Not to stroke your feathers, but cross pens are my favorite. I'd stack a solid $35 cross pen against a $1200 Monte Blanc anyday.
If you like something with a wider grip feel, the Century II has a fatter barrel. Mine is kind of hacked up now, but I've had it for a few years and it's still going strong after getting dropped on tile and concrete.
Otherwise, the Sauvage look like winners. I may pick one up.
I have to say, Keith, that all the suggestions thus far (except for Java's) seem like not the best ideas. Fact is, pens, watches, and the like are things that men tend to like more than women. That these items exist specifically designed for women says two things to me: a. CERTAIN women seek out these items b. men buy these things as gifts for women because its the female equivalent of what they would want themselves. Unless you are sure of a (that she wants a watch or pen or likes that type of thing specifically), I'd suggest something more personal and a little bit less utilitarian. The broadway tickets sound pretty good. No one ever went wrong with something from Tiffany's. Sorry that I don't have really good suggestions of my own - I'm a guy! But I'd recommend being sure she would like a pen or watch before investing in something she's may have no real interest in.

I'm not actually a huge proponent of my company's products. The writing instrument world is a funny thing, and I'm not really part of it. I do love hot accessories though, and I see pens as part of that. Cross is starting to expand now into a whole plethora of business accessories.
Regardless, same offer I made to Keith applies to you. If you want my to use my discount, let me know. I'd be glad to help a brother out.
Zach, what are you getting at? That a WOMAN might know what a woman would like better than MEN would? Puh-lease! (you raise a damn good point)

I got a sephora gc for christmas a couple of years ago and loved it!!!
Luggage was given to me by my grandparents when I graduated college. And my parents got me a beautiful diamond necklace.
Truthfully, I can't recall if RL got me anything for graduation, or what it was if he did. BUT I was wearing a ring on my left hand that was better than any graduation gift he (or you guys) could ever think of.
