Default vacation spots - relatively convenient to SoCal

I'm looking to take a vacation with my g/f in a few months - very early August. I'm looking for somewhere within an easy drive, ferry, or flight from San Diego. I looked into Catalina Island; that's still a possibility but any suggestions would be appreciated. I won't be on a tight budget but nothing real extravagant.

I wanted to go to Alaska, but she turned down that idea.

we loved coronado island, but that might not be far enough for a vacation for you guys. we stayed at the Del - if you go, order the room service chocolate-covered strawberries. We went in May a few years ago and it was fabulous!

Vegas is only a few hours away, you could buy her a nice spa treatment while you hang by the pool rating bikinis. Or golfing. Or do the same in Palm Springs, which is even closer. Joshua Tree National Park is pretty cool, so is the Mohave.

If you're willing to fly, and you're talking about August, think about Seattle. (I was born, raised, and lived my first 29 years there.)

Salish Lodge & Spa | Seattle's Luxury Resort & Spa If you want to be away from it all
Seattle Hotel in WA | Inn at the Market Seattle Washington If you want to be in the city

There's also Coeur d' Alene The Coeur d’Alene Resort – Lakeside Conferences, Golf & Spa Retreats, Weddings
