Hi Guys,
So Casey and I are best man and maid of honor in our friends' wedding. The couple has decided that they want to have a combined bachelor/bachelorette party which works just fine by us cause we only have to plan 1 party then. I looked into having a party bus pick everyone up for a pub crawl type thing, and was going to check out booze cruises out on the lake. (I figured instead of everyone paying for drinks out, what we would have spent downtown we can spend on the boat)
What I don't know is if we're supposed to give presents or?? If it was a plain bachelorette Katie (bride) talked about wanting a panty party - but are we supposed to still kind of do that even though the guys are around or what? Hunter (groom )talked about strippers for a half second but I'm not comfortable with them, yet it's not my party.
Any ideas? thanks!!

Ahh the problems of life. If a guy wants a stripper at a joint bachelor/bachelorette party then he is an idiot. Because undoubtedly he will do something that will offend his bride (such as ooogling). Hey I am sure she know that is what happens when her finance goes to the strippers, but she WILL NOT want to see it.
Tell hunter that he should either have a separate STAG party (even if fiancee says she is cool with a stripper) to do that. Not only will it put him in a situation he doesn't want to be in- a room full of guys screaming lap dance for the groom, with his fiance looking on, - so what does he do- man up and take the dance with fiance watching (not a good scenario) or "be a pussy" (sorry for the sexist term but that is part and parcel of a stag party with strippers). Now most Men I know would take the dance and deal with Madame freeze later - oh boy this is a fun party.
So in short, tell Hunter to get his head out of his ass!
(not only that, every other guy with a GF at the party will have to "be on their toes", as well as every other married guy). Strippers are good, so are wives and girlfriends, but they do not go well together- This by the way is a time tested and proven FACT!!!!!
Panty party, don't know what it is, but it sounds good- have some fun with it, get some guys drunk, remove ALL digital cameras and get the guys to model some underwear too!!!!
Cheers

After all, diamonds are a girl's best friend…
Well, usually the best man or groomsmen pitch in for a stripper/hooker for the groom, but I suspect that won't go over well with the bride to be there in the room. Sometimes the groom has to settle for a wedgie instead.
yeah Pete, I think Hunter was thinking of strippers at his own party, and hence they ended up with a combined party (I don't think Katie was ok with that idea).
that wedgie looks painful!
lol noooo, she wanted one of those sex toy/dirty nightie parties. Thankfully she changed her mind.
I'm MUCH happier with the idea of a combined party, but I don't know how to go about doing it?
I actually really like the idea of a combined party. I'm not into strippers (paying for blue balls? i'm all set!). I'm not sure what a combo party would look like though. Have you tried googling it?
What I would love to do when I have a bachelor party, eventually, would be a big paintball event or something like that.
For your situation, though, I think the party boat sounds like a GREAT idea!

for once (kidding, Chris), I'm with Shark on this. Booze cruise sounds fun. Just make sure there are taxi's available for people to get home.
as far as gifts, I'm not sure, I know that bachelorette parties do usually have the lingerie thing tied in there. for my bachelor party, they "guys" chipped in and bought me a grill for the house.
so I think it would be acceptable either way. It's mostly about getting everyone together to have a great time.
so the booze cruise is DEFINITELY out - it's $500 an HOUR plus then you pay for the crew and booze I was excited about that too!
Paintball sounds like fun, but us little girls bruise too easily from paintball (I'd rather paint pottery but getting the guys to agree to that won't EVER happen).
lol we were thinking of getting them a grill as a wedding present actually!
chera, katie talked about one of those parties but they're single sex only as far as I can tell. i'll have to look into it.
lol yes, you're right sal BUT it's not my marriage/party
what is stock the bar?? i don't get the stupidity thing either, mine WILL be pottery painting and the guys can do whatever, but it's katie's and she wants a crazy party so crazy party she'll get!
hahaha Chris, I'M the one that's a prude and insecure about shopping for/looking at sex toys/sexy lingerie in front of my friends! I just don't feel comfortable in that situation at ALL.
"Stock the bar" is easy- and fun. Guests bring alcohol, mixers, bar utensils, glassware, pretty much anything you would need to stock the home bar. You can play with this theme a little and adapt it to other things as well- stock the bbq, stock the kitchen, etc.
We gave one of these for some friends, and it was great, but our circle of friends is pretty chill.

They are tons of fun. No man should be ashamed nor should a woman. It's not just about toys but about each others bodies. PLUS lotions and clothing items as well.
Im sure you will have no problem trying to find someone to host a male/female party! Some of the games they play are hillarious asking silly questions or raise of hands.
But then again for my bach party i went to a drag show
So it's either "stock the bar" or "stock the nightstand". Combine them and you pretty much have the standard bachelor/bachelorette party anyway, right?

That brings up a great question for the married folks - what did you do on your bachelor/bachelorette party??
Bachelor Party #1 - Vegas x 3 days . . . much fun . . . no more shall be spoken
Bachelor Party #2 (thrown by those who couldn't make the Vegas trip) - Poker party . . . good buzz by 8PM when somebody (without my knowledge) started making me drinks with Everclear . . . passed out by 10PM . . . home by midnight
Wife's bachelorette party - booze, gabbing and weird games at MoH's house
I don't understand the co-ed party. Isn't that what the wedding reception is for?
I don't understand bachelor parties. Isn't that what college was for?
For most bachelor parties I've been to, it's an opportunity to gather as many as possible of your good friends from growing up and have a great time without having to consider whether or not your spouse will have fun. This may seem just like college, but as you get older (married or not), those opportunities get fewer and farther between and take much more effort to coordinate.
Leaving strippers out, my observation has been that bachelor and bachelorette parties tend to have similar components - activity, food, drinks - , but in general, if they had their way, men and women would have different ideas about what flavors of these components are most fun:
Men
activity - golf, paintball, gambling
food - animal flesh + fire
drinks - variable
Women
activity - games, scavenger hunts, (naughty) gift exchange
food - desserts
drinks - variable
While many (but not all) bachelor parties I've been to culminate with a trip to the nudie bar, I can't think of any where that trip is the most memorable or most important part of the event.
Editted to add: I've been to a few bachelor parties which started with a co-ed dinner followed by the genders going their separate ways. Those were fun and seemed to work out well.
