I just went for a walk (in my closed mall) and it looks like hell out there. I pulled my snow removal crews until 8PM so they get some rest and can hit it tonight so we are ready for the morning. Hope you have a 4 wheeler if you are planning on getting anywhere.

***************************** My Log - PC Plod
Luckily, I was working at home today. But I just finished shoveling the heaviest snow I've ever had to shovel in my 40 some years on this earth. Good lord was this stuff wet and DENSE. What normally takes me 30 minutes or so for a few inches took 2-1/2 hours - and that's with my athletically inclined wife helping me the whole time. She said it was the first time she wished we had a snowblower (we usually rush to be the first one out the door to shovel since we both like the exercise) - I agreed with her, especially at the end of the driveway where the plows had been by (and only the biggest snowblowers were actually able to get through).
There are a lot of news reports of broken plows because the stuff is so heavy.
I don't know if you got as dense and wet a snowfall as we did here, but if you did or not, be safe as well everyone; especially taking care of the lower back while shoveling this wet heavy stuff.
Jill, you're in Detroit Rock City? No wonder you're so tough. But, I gotta ask: doesn't the heavy snow fill in the potholes and make driving actually smoother in Detroit?
Crap. My husband has been out of town all week and this is the SECOND time this week I will have to snowblow and shovel our driveway and walkway. Even with the snowblower, it's still very time consuming. We used to have a plowservice until hubby decided it would cool to have a snowblower. I'm all for it except when I'm the one who has to do it. Dammit.
The snow just masks the huge potholes Kaiser...which is not a good thing.
How much snow did you guys get? It's snowing like crazy here in Detroit too. How long 'til Spring?
The projection is 17" total. Here is what the news is reporting:
At 6:45 p.m., the following snow totals were reported:
* Beloit -- 21 inches
* Jackson -- 19 inches
* Beaver Dam -- 19.8 inches
* Cedarburg -- 14 inches
* Madison -- 13.3 inches
* West Bend -- 13 inches
* Waukesha -- 12 inches
* Milwaukee -- 11.5 inches
* Fond du Lac -- 9.3 inches
Now, they were saying an inch an hour until 8-9pm, then it'll taper off so 17" might be a tad high.
On a sidenote, I made it into work. After shoveling with a garden spade for an hour, one of the tenants returned the snow shovel and I started to make some real headway in getting out. When you're using a garden spade to clear out your driveway, it's a scoop and dump method, but more like a sweeping or rowing action to try to take it down to 2-3 inches.
However, i did get stuck on the street at one point. It was T intersection onto a mainstreet but it was not cleared and I had to stop because of cross traffic (else I might have been able to power through it).
The final tally from the National Weather Service (Milwaukee) for Feb 5 & 6 was 13". My lot is getting better but I will have to haul snow for the next two nights and they are calling for more snow tonight and tomorrow morning

Sounds like you all made it through okay. Glad to hear that.
Snow shovel HIIT is the workout of the day.
Heh, it was more steady state, approaching futile since all I had was a garden shovel and it was coming down an inch an hour. Sweep aside 5ft of driveway, go back to the car to brush off a 1/2 inch of snow.
I've played video games that were less frustrating.
