Anybody good with tax deductions? help

Does anyone know if you're able to get deductions for medical expenses(bills) that you've paid through the year? Someone told me something about "if you spent more than $3,000 on medical expenses you can claim that"

I've never heard that. We started a medical savings acct and had to scramble to find ways to use it or lose it this year. I guess we should be thankful that everyone was so healthy.

I thnk it's the amount over 7.5% of AGI is deductable, but that's working from memory. So it you made $50k and your AGI is $35k, you can deduct medical expenses over $2,625.

Ya know, I've heard the IRS agents are actually quite helpful and free with the info. Afterall, they're not there to take your money, they're just making sure the tax laws, as asinine as they can be sometimes, are abided.

I was more than surprised by my GREAT experience talking with the IRS the other day regarding self-employment taxes. Yes, I said GREAT, as in friendliness, knowledge of topics, helpful suggestions... ya know, customer service, and this was with the three people I dealt with (all of whom I directly asked for a transfer to get to different departments).

As for write-offs, well... let's just say I work in broadcast media and entertainment, so I can write off a LOT of stuff (read: vast majority of most purchases of any kind)
