Default Wii games - suggestions?

my nephews (over 18) bought a Wii a couple of months ago - I'm thinking of getting them some games for Christmas. What are the good games?

Superswing golf is probably one of the coolest and most addictive games one will ever play. Even non-golfers get sucked in!

Also try Wii Play. Not quite as good as Wii Sports (which comes with the system) but still fun, a couple of really addictive challenges, and it comes with an extra remote.

My nine year old is obsessed with Zelda, so you can't go wrong with that if he is into role-play/adventure.

Super Paper Mario, Zelda: Twilight Princess, and Super Mario Galaxy are all pretty safe bets. Super Mario Galaxy in particular has gotten nothing but glowing reviews. If any of them are into RPGs, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn would make a great Christmas present. Opinions on Sonic and the Secret Rings are mixed, but I personally think it looks like a very good game. There's five to start off with (the Wii is still a new system and doesn't have that big a library yet), but do note that these are some of the more popular and mainstream games. If you decide to get any of them, you should make sure that nobody else has already gotten them the same thing, if you can.

Never mind that "to start off" with bit. JP beat me.

guitar hero - it's SO much fun and so addicting. but good luck finding one for the WII (they have them for every other console) my Mom managed to snag one at gamestop. I got the gamepack also that came with the extra controller which is very helpful (it was 50 dollars at target, the controller itself was 30 or 40 so for the difference I also got 9 games to play). guitar hero comes with the game and the guitar for $99.00 if you can find it (my Mom was told at Best Buy that they'll be on sale on Sunday).

I second that. I'm basically obsessed with this game, as is my wife. Moreover, JP is now afraid of playing against me as he knows what the result will be

The wii will also play old gamecube games, so if there's something old and cool (and there are, like Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door) and he didn't have a gamecube, there's an option. And if he has everything good already, you can always give him points (giftcard so he can purchase really old school stuff, like original Mario games or Super Mario 64, by far one of the best, although now they all look sooooo old) to pick whatever he may want.

Zelda is good but depending on where he got his it may have come with the console. Mario Party is good for drunken minigame fun, but after a bit it gets old, certainly not an engrossing game. Super Smash brothers is a good fighter, wait is it out yet? Godfather: Blackhand edition got good reviews... SSX blur is fun, and tough... WarioWare is more minigame fun with the twist of being very---odd. Rayman is great, needs the nunchuck though.... Excite truck came with great reviews, didn't like it personally but good racing-type game for those that like off-roading... Trauma Center looked interesting and got decent reviews... Plus what was already mentioned.

I only listed what xplay gave a 4.
I just happen to coincide a lot with their opinions on a game, so it's my usual sourse.
G4 - X-Play - Game Reviews for ideas/info/cautions on what suks. You'll polly need to select the wii, I don't know if the link is that specific.

Must Buys:
- Super Mario Galaxy
- Zelda: Twilight Princess
- MLB: Power Pros (Surprisingly great baseball game, and can be found for $20)
- Resident Evil 4
- wario Ware
- Manhunt 2 (OK, and can be found at Amazon for $20, at least it was when i bought it last week).
- Wii Points (Sadly virtual console has most of the best games for the system)

I don't think so. Everything from the NES onwards looks attractive to me (NES graphics are more bright and vivid than those of any other system), let alone Super Mario 64.

I hear SuperSwing Season 2 is coming out soon I bet it's good too! Depends on how old the kid is...some of the games are 18 holes, and it takes a long time to play...

Perfect! They'd love SuperSwing. If they're not into golf, they'd like the suggestive outfits the characters wear, not to mention that a few are very well endowed. Some of it even makes me blush :p

If they are high school/college guy I would go with Tiger Woods 06 instead. It has a much more realistic swing mechanic, and its a little less childish.

Super Swing is a good game, just a little to cartoony (it's from Japan and they love their anime).

Definately cartoony, and a little goofy, but that's really what makes it interesting. Courses are fantasy based and the story line with the characters are fun. We're nearly double their age and are addicted to it :P

But, if you want REAL golf, then Tiger Woods probably is better.

I have both. Tiger Woods is impressive graphics, but SS Golf is actually a lot more fun once you get the basics down and start the story lines, start unlocking characters, etc. The courses are something dreamed up by 13 y-o Japanese boys on mushrooms!

My system is being repaired right now, dang it! That means I can't practice at all (haven't played since the last time Russ and I played several months ago), while Russ and Cappy are fine-tuning their skills. Can't wait to see if I can still take them being rusty and all. I'd give myself 3-1 odds. :p

my dad (53 year old) is LOVING the wii we got him for christmas - who knew it would be such a big hit?! he went out and bought zelda and some car game that came with a steering wheel. the points thing looks great, as there aren't a WHOLE lot of games to choose from that aren't repeats of older ones. the 9 game pack that comes with a wii remote is awesome and he LOVED the newer version of duck hunt. (plus we now have 2 remotes for it)

I'll second Aoife's suggestion that the Wii can also play Gamecube games, which probably can be gotten cheaper used.

Guitar Hero, hands down. My new addiction.

Most of the time though, I feel like I should just be putting that energy into actually learning how to play a real guitar.

I feel the same way - there's a cooking game out for the Wii, which I saw a video review for. My thought was if you're going to go through all that trouble you should just learn how to do the real thing and get some tasty food as well.
