I was having this discussion with my client, Sara, today. We had a discussion regarding music as a motivator. I told her that I try to avoid "burn out" by creating different playlists in my MP3 player from time to time. Just the idea of knowing I have a new song(s) or CD in my player motivates me to no end. And when you have been working out for as long as I have, you will find anything to keep yourself motivated.
So here is one song that ALWAYS gives my goosebumps when I hear it from an old 80's metal band called Savatage. It is a ballad called "Believe". I found it on YouTube. YouTube - Believe
Give it a listen... Everytime I hear it, I just wanna ADD 50 MORE POUNDS to WHATVER exercise I am doing!!!
Hmm, I'm not sure that anybody else's songs will have the same effect on you as your own, but these always boost my mood and energy:
Children of Bodom - Everytime I Die
Morbid Angel - Dawn of the Angry
Vader - The Book
Unleashed - "The Longships are Coming" AND "Destruction (Of the Race of Men)"
Guns N' Roses - Paradise City
I can send you a couple of those if you have any interest. PM me.
GnR - November rain (the last solo is too darn awsome)
GnR - Knocking on Heaven's Door (the live era version) (the last part of the song rocks, but only the live era version!)
And thanks for that song, John. I really liked it!
Are we talking like workout goosebumps or in general?
If we're talking workout then:
Pantera - Walk, Strength Beyond Strength, A New Level
Danzig - Am I Demon
Metallica - For Whom the Bell Tolls
Killswitch Engage - Fixation on the Darkness, Rose of Sharyn

Good song Alco. Nice clip. You have to wonder if the people in the audience were getting the message. Back at that time Bob certainly had his detractors.

Not necessarily "workout music", but songs that give you goosebumps while you are driving, doing cardio, or whatever. Songs that give you motivation thru inspiration, reflection, or introspection. Songs taht make you think.
I need aggressive stuff when I lift...but it doesn't give me goosebumps. It just gets me hyped. Thats what Hatebreed is for.
mp, thanks for posting that. It's amazing. I never had listened to the John Butler Trio before, but I've become a fan after listening to a bunch of his stuff on youtube.

Ah. I took the "add 50 pounds to whatever exercise" comment as meaning workout time music.
That said, those songs would be on my list for driving too. I guess I don't listen to music for introspection. I read or watch movies for that. Songs that try to be "deep" usually lose my attention pretty fast.
Pete: I think it's funny you put Bodom's version of "Rebel Yell" on here. I was just listening to that and a few other Bodom covers. They do some fun/funny ones: "Oops I Did it Again" and "Talk Dirty to Me" are two of my favs.
