I am trying to put together a playlist of songs that have great guitar solos (I have widened the scope from guitar only to guitar main focus to include some that still have a drum beat etc)
So my request is to all you music lovers, please post up some suggestions for great guitar solos. I am not very picky about genre, or electric/acoustic, anything that is a guitar and sounds great I will give a fair shot.
*edit* well, I just posted this and after I did Moby Dick by Led Zeppelin came on iTunes so I will also accept excellent drum solos

sorry, I can name good songs by guitar players, or good guitarists in various genres, but not so much guitar solos in other songs.
For instance: Michael Hedges
"Focus on making the 5 lifts stronger and getting enough food. There will be plenty of time to worry about glycemic indexes, PERs, and Bulgarian Split squats later. Much later."-Mark Rippetoe

Eric Johnson - Cliffs of dover
Clapton - shot the sheriff (especially live @ crossroads)
Hendrix - Machine Gun
Rush - 2112/fly by night (also, if you like drum solos.. anything by rush)
A lot of great suggestions so far and some I have never even heard of which is all the better because I love finding new bands. I feel ashamed to admit I had completely forgotten about Rush, I think I may have broken some sort of Canadian cardinal rule

Bohemian Rhapsody: Queen
Whole Lotta Love: Led Zeppelin

As an apology for forgetting Rush (and because I am in the middle of re-watching all my Family Guy DVDs) I offer up this as some small form of pittance as partial repayment of my debt
oh, as with most family guy clips this has a little bit of cursing, so... yeah

If you ever get to see these three brothers from Texas perform live, you won't be disappointed.

Here's another one of Los Lonely Boys. This blue guitar is new, he was playing this at a show I went to in Nevada in August, sounded so sweet. Watch this all the way to the end, though.
and to elaborate on the Joe Satriani suggestion
"Always with me always with you"
"Surfing with the alien"
"The Extremist"
this list could go on for a long time, but start with those. seriously, he is friggin' amazing.
Oh! Check out Robin Trower. Try "Bridge of Sighs" to begin with. Good stuff.

Wow, I had "Bridge of Sighs" on 8-track back in the early 70s. Cruising the back roads of western PA in my Olds F85 listening to Trower, Yes, Hendrix, Zappa among others, steering with my knees while I played air guitar. If we'd ever gotten pulled over the cop would have got high when I rolled my window down.

I think I might have caught a buzz from that, just from memory.
They've aged a bit:
