Default What is wrong with people?

I just dont get some people, I was at my conference title football game this morning tailgating when some stupid drunk kid walks up and starts yelling, "look at my friend he's Hitler!" His dumbass friend was walking around with a Hitler stash painted on raising his hand. I walked up to him and said my piece. I asked him calmly if he thought my family's suffering in the war was funny or entertaining to him. He said no, then I told him to wipe it off immediately or I will do it for him. The smile quickly left, along with the stash and after an apology he walked off with his tail between his legs.

What the hell is wrong with people. A football game, I mean come on. sorry if this isnt the place but god did this piss me off. Took every part of me to talk to him instead of rearranging his face. Thank god for good friends and good beer or I would of missed the game do to some idiot.

oh yeah, 1000 posts biznitches. only took me 4 years to the day!!!

Sounds like you handled him very well.

You did him a favor. From now on, he will think before doing something extremely insensitive to be funny.

Some people just need little reminders, and people like you are thankfully there to give them to them.

Congrats on your 1K!

Is this the same Steve that had a fit about the guy parking in front of his house? If so, you handled this situation much better.

The moment I read your post it brought to light my Gr.10 History class, our teacher (one of the best teachers I have ever had) showed us a video of a rabbit in a gas chamber (yes yes I know poor rabbit) and my god it was shocking. It definitely put everything a little more into context. It is one thing to read about thousands being gassed and another to see what it actually would have been like.

Unfortunately the school/parents went total ape shit over it, he was punished severely and since then (if he still teaches now) had to completely change his teaching style.

My grandmother and her family were kicked out of their house, the estate they worked their entire lives to build, it was given to a family of Nazis. The elder of the family even grabbed her doll and said it would make a nice present for his daughter. She spent over a year in a labor camp and was sent to Auschwitz. While in line to be tattooed the guards got up and walked from their posts when a handful of people were in front of her. They asked whats was going on, and the guards replied "The war is over, go home". When you think of the average life expectancy of a member of Auschwitz, it is a miracle I am here today. When people even begin to joke about the matter my body gets extremely hot. The lack of intelligence of some astounds me. It took every part of my being to speak before I swung on the idiot.

Sign, your teacher sounds like a brilliant man. In hebrew school they showed us actually videos of the ovens. The image still haunts my dreams but I am glad to no other that I was shown it.

I couldn't even begin to imagine what it was like for people in the camps or in any way related to the war. I can't even really empathize because nothing in my life could even be considered to what they endured. I think the problem is simply that people either aren't educated on WWII or parts are glossed over so as not to offend anyone (as what happened in my class after the video) and people just don't get/care what happened. The day after Remembrance Day there was an article in my school's paper about how few kids even know when Remembrance Day even is (only something like 20% knew the exact date; 15% didn't even get the right month), it really is a sad state of affairs when people know more about the next Idol (American, Canadian, whatever) and other "Stars" then they do about their countries holidays and the reasons we celebrate them.
