Default Tech question: Motherboard

My desktop's HD crashed, and so I decided just to replace the entire system (the computers 9-10 years old). And was wondering if anyone had any experience with this motherboard , or this one ,or if you have any suggestions for another one. I'm pretty sure i'll be getting an intel core 2 duo processor (LGA 775). I'll be running 4g RAM, a RAID hd setup. I don't think i'll be running SLI or crossfire mainly because of cost. Not looking to

Not looking to spend a fortune on it, under $250 preferably

You'll need to run Vista to take advantage of anything over 2Gig ram. I have a C2D E6600 2.4Mhz I got back in March or so. I'm not unhappy and I haven't bothered to OC it.

I have no experience with those MBs. I bought a diff brand. I like it though it didn't some with a serial card. Do you still use a serial port? If not, consider it a legacy option. SLI is not cost effective, so no worries. Just get the best GPU you can afford.

Keep in mind a lot of legacy games will not function well on the new GPUs. BG and BGII are pooch screwed on my 8800GTX.

What is your basis for this statement? I recently added another 1GB to my PC running XP, taking it up to 3GB, and definitely notice a difference in several apps.

yeah ill be running vista 64 bit. I dont have a need for serial port everything I have is usb. I was looking at the 8800gts, but im still kind of hesitant to get a top end card right now when there arn't that many games supporting directx 10 yet.

Kaydub- the reason is that vista takes around 2g just to run, and the other 2 is for apps and games, where as in XP 2g will perform anything you need. Anything more is just overkill.

My bad:

You'll need to run 64-bit Vista to take advantage of anything over 3.37Gig.

Maybe so, but it'll be a long, long time before DX9 is not supported at all. Since DX10 will only run on Vista and a lot of people are balking at it's instability, DX9 is going to be around a while and it takes advantage of high end cards just fine.
