I think Cynic beats out Gymrat for the "diversity" award so far.

I rarely use the shuffle feature on my iPod because I've got playlists of jazz for during nice dinners, pop for more casual dinners or when I'm cleaning house, classical for when I'm in the mood to sit and listen, and then very hard rock for when I'm lifting without a partner. Who'd ever want all of those to come up at the same time?

But I was curious and here's what I got:

Moody Blues: Never Thought I’d Live to Be a Hundred
Jonathan Cain: Body Language
Now that's some sexy music.
Liona Boyd (classical guitar) playing Vivaldi’s Largo
Metallica: Master of Puppets
Skipped past this one! Even when I’m lifting this isn’t one of my favs.
Nordic Chamber Choir: Drait-On from O Magnum Mysterium
Oh wow that was beautiful. I repeated this one and added it to my choral music playlist. Why wasn’t it already in there? LOL
Sonny Chillingsworth: some guitar piece from the Slack Key Guitar Masters CD
Postal Service: Such Great Heights
Ozzy Ozbourne: Perry Mason
Moody Blues: Lean on Me Tonight
Linkin Park: Somewhere I Belong

Kate Rusby: Little Jack Frost, from The Girl Who Couldn't Fly
- a great folk CD of consistently high quality songs, singing and playing. Rusby's one to hear and watch.

Bootsy Collins: Christmas is 4 Ever, from Christmas is 4 Ever
- one of the few holiday CDs I keep on my Ipod year round. Funkified holiday classics, particularly one of the best renditions of Silent Night I've ever heard.

Kirsten Vigard: Paint My Head, from Kirsten Vigard
- interesting funky jazz songs, with some good lyrics and a good voice to sing them.

John Dowland: In Darkness Let Me Dwell, Christina Hoegman (sop), Jakob Lindberg(lute), from Faire, Sweet and Cruell: Elizabethan Songs for Soprano and Lute
- A rarified taste certainly, but the sadness and longing come through in the Dowland very well in this version by Hoegman and Lindberg.

Johann Sebastian Bach: English Suite No. 3 in G minor, II - Allemande, Anne-Marie McDermott, piano from Bach: Piano Works
- McDermott is an excellent pianist and this CD is well worth seeking out for lovers of Bach and/or the piano.

Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder: My Father's Son from Brand New Strings
- one of the breakout bluegrass CDs from a few years ago - great fiddling and twangy singing.

Faun: Sirena from Renaissance
- Medieval rock (using medieval instruments) augmented by airy vocals and some technology at the edges. It's not unusual for me to listen to this while working out.

Gustav Mahler: Symphony No. 3 in D minor - III Tempo I., London Symphony Orchestra, Michael Tilson Thomas cond.
- I'm surprised more Mahler hasn't already shown up. A great interpretation of this classic, the CD also has the Rueckert Lieder with Dame Janet Baker singing.

Antonio Vivaldi: Autumn, Allegro, Europa Galante, Fabio Biondi from The Trial of Harmony and Invention
- Biondi seems to be untouchable when performing Vivaldi - if you want to hear the Four Seasons with new ears, fill yours with this.

Ludwig Van Beethoven: Symphony No. 9, III Adagio Molto e cantabile, Philadelphia Orchestra, Christoph Eschenbach cond.
- A soundboard recording (purchased at the orchestra's website) of a concert I heard live in Verizon Hall to close out the 05-06 season. This particular recording has deep personal meaning for me, but the music making itself is top notch. It IS something to hear the 9th performed live - recordings don't do it justice, but this comes pretty close.

Claude Debussy: Le Martyre de Saint Sebastien, III - Passion, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Esa-Pekka Salonen
- A Debussy rarity: orchestral music that's not Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun nor the Nocturnes (which are deservedly popular). The same lush impressionistic textures, but blending in some darker emotions too.

I am too scared to do this. I downloaded all my daughters' playlists on to my iPod when we went on vacation this summer so they could play them in the car. I can't imagine what would show up.

Cynic posts Abba and you're worried about being embarrassed? Man up, amigo.

And I'm not being hypocritical in not posting my own -- I don't have an mp3 player. My gym is way too dangerous to risk putting in earbuds and being less than 100% alert to the surroundings.

What's so dangerous about your gym...besides the unprotected sex in the men's change room?
