Default Canada .... God's country? :D

In response to Waz's allegation in CE (in jest) that this forum is being taken over by "Canuckastanis", I offer this up as proof (also in jest):

Once upon a time in the Kingdom of Heaven, God went missing for six days.

Eventually, Michael the archangel found him, resting on the seventh day. He inquired of God, "Where have you been?"

God sighed a deep sigh of satisfaction and proudly pointed downwards through the clouds, "Look Michael, look what I've made."

Archangel Michael looked puzzled and said, "What is it?"

"It's a planet," replied God, "and I've put LIFE on it. I'm going call it Earth and it's going to be a place of great balance."

"Balance?" inquired Michael, still confused. God explained, pointing to different parts of Earth, "For example", Northern Europe will be a place of great opportunity and wealth while Southern Europe is going to be poor;
the Middle East over there will be a hot spot." God continued, pointing to different countries. "This one will be extremely hot and arid while this one will be very cold and covered in ice."

The Archangel, impressed by Gods work, then pointed to a large landmass in the top corner and asked, "What's that one?"

"Ah," said God. "That's Canada, the most glorious place on Earth. There are beautiful mountains, lakes, rivers, streams and an exquisite coastline. The people from Canada are going to be modest, intelligent and humorous and they're going to be found traveling the world. They'll be extremely sociable, hard working and over achieving, and they will be known throughout the world as diplomats and carriers of peace. I'm also going to give them super- human, undefeatable hockey players who will be admired and feared by all who come across them."

Michael gasped in wonder and admiration but then proclaimed; "What about balance, God? You said there will be BALANCE!"

God replied wisely. "Wait until you see the loud-mouth bastards I'm putting next to them...."

(As I say, just in jest. I love you bastards. I really do. )

I think it's colder in RI than where I live, Chris.

Really? But all the Canadian weather maps show the temperatures never get above the 20s.

Very funny. We actually get into the 30s in summer time. Better be sure to bring your fur coats ...

not according to weather.com :P Oddly, we have warmer summers but colder winters than you. Generally, we're just more extreme, which would be in keeping with our internal politics!

Providence: Avg High in July 83, Low 64
Vancouver: Avg High in July 71, Low 54
(July was the hottest month for both places)

Providence: Avg High in January 37, Low 20
Vancouver: Avg High in January 42, Low 32
(January was the coldest month for both places)

Canada's alright, but we've got way better gas stations. Just ask Frank.

I know you were joking but I have actually had people cross the border in the middle of summer (100 degrees F) with skis on their car and actually ask me where the snow/mountains were. I was dumbfounded to say the least.

As for you K-court, if you weren't a fellow canuck I would have to yell at you. this made me laugh out loud in the middle of the student commons computer lab. Nothing like embarrassing yourself in front of a couple hundred fellow students.

Yup. I have a number of Canadian relatives, and I've heard many, many stories of people driving up there in July and August, with their winter clothes at the ready, expecting to see snow. For some reason many of these ignorant tourists seem to be from New York City.

Yeah, seeing as how I live in Windsor which shares the border with Detroit, MI I have all kinds of stories. I think the most common event though is Americans on their way back across the border stop to fill up because they think it is cheaper. Gas prices here are about $0.95/L which works out to about $3.60/gal. if my math is correct. I think our gas here is slightly higher octane for regular unleaded (89octane vs. 87 octane but it has been a while since I got gas in the US so I can't say for sure) but I don't think that is worth as much extra as they end up paying lol.

If it was at the Vancouver crossing, they COULD be headed to Whistler to go glacier-skiing in the summer ....
