I can't wait to see what my buddies are up to now. It looks like they finally got some new shows for the week. It seemed like the last few Shark Weeks have been full of shows that have already been on before. I'm pretty psyched!!!

Hmmm...a thresher followed by a great white. The poor bull shark gets no respect, even though it's responsible for far more attacks than the two previous combined.
Looks like someone was absent the day that the professor discussed the mako shark (like the one in my avatar) :p

Hmm, must be the angle...They look pretty similar:
The main distinguishing feature I missed, given the angle, is the elongated, pointed snout.
That, and the mako's teeth are much narrower than the great white's.

I am. I love Shark week. There are two kinds of people out there. Those that dig Shark week, and those that think people that dig Shark week are nerds.

There was a great show on last night about the great whites around S. Africa that breach the water when attacking... amazing footage.
I live really close to where the original "Jaws" attacks occurred so that stuff is always floating (bad pun intended) around in the back of my mind when I'm in the water.
You can't help but be awestruck by the sheer power that those Great Whites have in order to propel themselves out of the water like that. Sometimes it saddens me to think that in my lifetime, my son may see some species of sharks become extinct.
The show about the Indianapolis was great. I thought it was neat how they had actors play the parts of the sailors from that time period. It kind of gave you a sense of who the men were.

Read the book In Harm's Way...absolutely amazing telling of the story and the men who lived it.
The Indianapolis was always interesting to me because its kinda personal. My grandfather was on that ship. The odd thing was we didn't even know it until the early 80's. He never talked about it. All my dad knew was that he had psychological problems ever since the war. He ended up leaving his wife and kids when my dad was in his young teens. Then, years later, my dad was in the Marine Corp and when he got Top Secret clearance they told him about his dad being on the ship (I didn't think they'd share things like that). We never heard from my grandfather until one day a few years ago we got a phone call from a hospital that they had an unidentified man that died there and the only info he had was a note that said my dads name and hometown on it. So they tracked my dad down and we brought him back here to be buried.
It's interesting that more men probably died from exposure or dehydration than shark attacks.

Here is a crazy story from my neighborhood that just happened a week or so ago. *note to self - stay off paddleboards*
