Funny how he demonstrated on a hot dog instead of his own finger, though.

Dang, RedWifey's dad could've used that invention about 10 years ago, when he sawed off the tip of his ring finger.

p.s. -- Mahler wouldn't need this. When a saw blade touches Mahler's finger, it breaks into shards and each shard whimpers away into a pathetic pool of self-loathing and fear.

I zapped a thumb on my old Craftsman just before I finished the cabinets for my house. I have been waiting for them to come out with the contractors' model. Incidentally FineWoodworking gave their cabinet version a top rating over Deltas and other great old brands.

I just called them, and the contractors, due out end of 06 will probably be out the end of this year. Definitely a good purchase.

It doesn't cut it off, but it still cuts out a small chunk, which would still hurt like the dickens.

Sure it would, but I'd be much more impressed. Especially if he could do it without uttering an expletive.

Mahler doesn't need a saw. He uses his teeth, and takes half as much time.

One of the comments from the video's site:

They could have just added a breathalyzer to the bench and probably have the same reduction in accidents.
I don't know why I find that so funny, but I do. My grandfather lost three of his fingers on a planer. He jokes about it now saying either a bear bit them off when he was a kid or the Germans shot them off. I'm not sure if he really remembers how he lost them.
