Default The deal on Sunday...

I didn't get much in the way of responses to doing anything big on Sunday after the Summit. Those that did respond went all over the place (soccer, bikes, hikes, Clinton library, etc.). Way too many things to organize. I did get interest from a few staying until Monday for the hike up Pinnacle Mountain for Sunset. Lisa (ODBsGirl) and I decided that would be what we will plan. We can do the same hike as last year (a nice cardo push to the top) then dinner during the sunset and a quick hike back down with flashlights. Anyone interested will then be invited over to our house for drinks on the deck.

I will need a head count so we can plan the meal. We were thinking of bringing a couple of roasted chickens, some fruit and bread.

So far I have
  1. Rob (K-court)
  2. Lisa~
  3. Gayla
  4. ODBsGirl
  5. ODB
Please PM me if you want to go. Right now the temperature is looking to be in the high 60's and mostly clear. Should be a beautiful sunset. We'll be sitting on top of this for the event:

OOPS! Put the wrong Lisa on the list! Two Lisa's, any more and we could have real trouble.

I'll Fix!

I should also say that I recommend some light hiking boots or trail running shoes. Maybe a jacket to put on when we get to the top. It would also help if each person going could carry their own water. Bring cameras too. We need to show off to those that miss this.

Don't forget your flashlight for the hike down

You are going to have a great time. I've seen the sun set and rise ontop of Pinnacle Mountain when I lived there many times. Wish I could get be there just for Sunday night......

If you're on fence on this, definately go. We didn't go up for sunset, last year, but it was a great little hike.

For those who might be intimidated by Joe and Lisa's outdoorsy-ness, thinking that this hike/climb is a tough one, it's not.

A big group of us went last year and it's really a fun, light hike with sort of a rock scramble to the top. You don't need to be an experienced hiker or climber to have fun on this one.

It was a lot of fun with a great view. I can only imagine how much better it's going to be with dinner and a sunset view. Don't miss it!

More info: Sunset is suppose to be at 7:40 (unless Al Gore changes planetary rotation) so I'm thinking we need to be heading out at about 6:00 - 6:15. That's starting from the trailhead. The hike should take about an hour of walking and I think we should get up early enough to get settled in, take some pictures and eat. The hike out should take no more than 20 minutes.

As we figure out the total number of people going we'll figure out a carpool.

I would love to make the hike, but we'll be leaving as early on Sunday as we can possibly roll our hung-over asses out of bed! (not sure if that makes sense... )

I would.

My husband and I hiked around and partially up (as far as they'd let you go) Arenal Volcano in Costa Rica several years ago. We could even see the lava. Totally cool.

It is way better to do the "roll our hung-over asses out of bed" on Mondays.

I have no idea about myself for Sunday. I'm driving, so I want to be fully conscious, so therefore it probably depends on how much fun we have Friday and Saturday. (and Thursday too)

I'd love to be there, but at the same time, I don't want to fall asleep at the wheel.

Yeah, I did it in runners last year, Neil. Just need to be a bit careful.

Hmmm... you're really enticing me, but I'm like Nick (no, not in that way... Keep reading!). I don't want to spend the extra money on the hotel for Sunday night. If I drive back starting at 8:00, that'll put me home around 2:00 am or so.

It's not a difficult climb but can be a bit slick for regular trainers. My daughter made her first trip up at 5 years old. This is all about the view and the company, not necessarily the workout! Anything you don't have, I reckon we can lend you as we seem to have 2 of everything.

Coffee and one of my infamous cheesecakes awaits those that make it down alive.

But being fully conscious has never been a prerequisite for anything else you've done involving the summit.
