It's going to go towards the spring/summer semester.

I'm curious if anyone on here uses Uncle Sam as a savings account?
I work with a guy who brags about how big a refund he gets every year, his target is $5,000. He uses part of that for a week long Orlando vacation, but I still don't get it at all. I ask him why he doesn't just put the money in a MM or high-yield savings account or something instead, but he says he doesn't have enough discipline, the only way he can save it is to have it taken out of his paycheck. WTF?????
So he's giving hundreds of dollars a month to the IRS to hold for him, at 0% interest, just because it's too much trouble to do an online transfer to a savings account? /RANT
If I get more than $300 back I need to adjust my withholding.

After getting my last tax return I had to some drastic changes to my W4. I'd much rather get some back than owe anything, so I waited to adjust until I got my taxes back this year. I had some pretty big changes, wife now stays at home and we had our first kid, so I wasn't sure how it was all going to work out.

Great thing about contracting. No taxes, and being self-employed, I write off EVERYthing
Me, too. Except as I work on this year's taxes, I am, as usual, worried if I'll have to write an unexpectedly large check. But, I've been OK up to now.
Next year, I'll have at least $13,000 in college tuition and expenses for my son. That should help!
Yeah, I need to adjust my withholding too so I don't get a refund, but when tax time comes around, I'm still happy to receive rather than send a check.

That is just pure stupidity.
A tax refund is a bad thing. It's money that could have been making interest for you.

We have a Hawaii trip this summer so some for that. And we are booking a cruise for next summer.

I agree, but it's pretty relative. Is the money going in an interest bearing savings account? Or does it go straight to a no interest checking account? Or does it go spent unnoticeably cause it was only a raise of say $5 a paycheck, leaving you with nothing extra at tax time?
definately better to put the extra money going to uncle same in an interest bearing account and not spend it so it works for you...but unless the refund is HUUUGE, it's not that big of a deal to let uncle sam keep it for you for a while.

Hmmm... manual shifter, custom tinkerbell floor mats, and now she's getting interested in racing AND wants to have the windows tinted.
Gina, I'm convinced you're a tuner at heart... You got a thing for Vin Diesel, too?
