After Innocence
Although, i know we have the movie thread, i think this movie deserves a thread of it's own. I've seen this movie twice already, and it doesn't lose any of it's impact the second time around watching it. It won the Special Jury Prize at sundance, as well as the audience award at the boston indie film festival, and rightfully so.
It's a documentary that follows the lives of inmates who were falsely accused of crimes they didn't commit, and later freed by DNA evidence. It's amazing, and heartbreaking to see how these inmates can be dragged through the mud and still function in the real world. Moreso, it's amazing to see how many politicans, law enforcement, and attorneys drag their feet when it comes to DNA testing, and freeing those who are innocent.
One example is a man who was accused of rape and served 22 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit. They ran DNA testing on him around 19 years into his term, and found he was innocent. But, through a loophole with DNA testing not being allowed in courts at that time, he had to serve an additional 3 years in prison (innocent!).
It's very amazing, and i've suggested it to a few people already (Tony). It's only an hour and a half long, and really puts things into perspective. So, if you see one movie on VHS this year, make it After Innocence.
