it's definitely interesting. it's another situation of what gain the war games bring vs the risk of killing wild life. It seems like there was a pretty big stink not too long ago around Alaska. They were doing this sort of thing during a mating season or migration or something along those lines.

The Surfrider Foundation among other organizations have been fighting the Navy for years with some success. I believe there have been restrictions put upon the Navy from conducting certain maneuvers around the Channel Islands off CA, an important breeding staging area, and Hawaii.

There is no reason the Navy needs to use this type of sonar in such areas.
