Thanks for sharing Fish. Your blog entry is very moving and a terrific tribute to Daisy. We've got a 13-yr old lab/retriever who has always been in good health, but has declined considerably in the last 6 months. When our time comes, I'll remember your wonderful words posted here at JPville.

I'm sorry for your loss also. Great blog, Fish. We had to do the same several years ago and your blog really captured the emotion that goes with that event. The pets in our house are just like,...... well, family. It's never easy, but with the right things, you can make it easier. Our vet was wonderful at that time also. They brought us in the back entrance so we would not have to wait, nor have to deal with anybody else at that time. They all were very kind and I believe that they shared the sadness with us.
Again, thanks for sharing your story. I hope that you and your family enjoy the good memories of Daisy and the more recent ones fade to the background.

Fish, I am sorry to hear about Daisy. Pets are so much a part of a family and their lives so brief in the grand scheme of things. No doubt they burn out more quickly for all the comfort and happiness they bring. Having lost two pets in the past, I feel your grief.

Fish, sorry to hear Daisy didn't improve with the medication. I was hoping for the best after her last vet visit. My condolences to you and the family.
my dog is going to be 7 this year - relatively young for his breed (bichon frise). A week or so ago i was contemplating if, when the time comes, i will have him put down or let him die a natural death at home. i suppose it depends on what's afflicting him, but I know from past experience that the decision is never easy.
i'm sorry about your dog

Fish, I just wanted to offer my condolences to you and your family over your loss of Daisy. I had my dog and cat for 17 years before having to put both of them to sleep within two months of each other. It was almost unbearable, but it was necessary to spare them from the pain they were each suffering. You did the most humane thing possible. Daisy is in a better place. And, she had the great fortune of being part of your family. I hope the memories bring you comfort.
My condolences, Fish. That is always a difficult decision to make.

Very sorry about Daisy, Fish. We have lost two dogs in the past two years, and actually three in five years as our geriatric pack finally wound down. It is very hard to see them go, but often they linger past when they have a good quality of life, and putting them down is the right thing to do.
I've had to make that decision twice - so hard to do - so hard to take - my condolences -- but it sounds like you all are handling it the best you can -
I feel your pain Fish. They truly are the most loyal and loving friends.

It is difficult to put down your child fish. Your pets become your child and and inseparable member of your family.
We had an Alsesian(sp??), "Poppy" when I was born. I loved my big brother. But he was very jealous towards me and did not want to share his family with me. Of course, I came later than him and no one asked him if he wanted a sibling. Well, when my parents could not take his too much of hurting me, they had to give him away. That was the sadest day of our lives.
Your story reminded me of "Poppy" today. Thanks for sharing.
I've had pets all my life and have seen my fair share of them put down, but never in such a graceful way. It was always a suprise...like I knew they were sick (but IMO not THAT sick), and I came home from school and they were gone. It was always painful, because I never felt like I got to say goodbye or process it...it just was.
Thanks for a good example of how to celebrate and end an era in your life together as a family.
Like I said before, sorry buddy. But it sounds like it brought you just that much closer as a family, so that's a blessing in and of itself.

Sorry for your loss. Daisy sounds like a great friend and member of the family. We had two sister cats and about two years ago Freckles got sick. I wrapped her in a blanket and we took her to the vet. Her kidneys failed and she died overnight at the vets. My wife was sad because she had to die sick, frightened and alone. If we had known she was going to die, we could have euthanized her while the people who loved her were around to make it easier for her. She is buried in a flower bed by our porch under tiger lilies. I visit her and still talk to her.
It's very hard, but you did the right thing. Daisy got to die surrounded by love instead of alone.
I'm SO sorry for your loss, Fish. That is horrible. I am inspired once again by your deft handling of difficult situations. You are such a great role model for your daughter. Mourn Daisy's loss and celebrate your time together. She is part of your collective family memories now.

Sorry for your loss. I read this entry in your blog the other day and feel bad for you and your family. Sounds like the little one took it like a trooper.
My dog, who's currenlty living with my parents (long story), is going to be 11 this summer. I know this day is coming...hopefully it'll be sooner rather than later.
I'm a big fan of Ted Williams. There was an article about him in SI a number of years ago and at one point during the interview he was talking about his dog. It was a dalmation named "Slugger". The author said he looked at that dog and said "I just pray to God I die before that dog..." Now that's a dog lover. Unfortunately, Slugger passed away a couple years later. He had a memorial on his website for a long time after that just for this dog. This is just one of the reasons I'm a fan of his.
