Default Bodies the Exhibition (Warning: Not for the squeamish)

Has anyone else heard about this?
It looks like a really interesting if you can stomach it.

I can't think of a better way to learn about human anatomy.

And an article talking about the controversy.

Yeah, I've heard about it. It's disturbing, but what's disturbing isn't necessarily immoral or indecent.

RedWifey and I went to it last year here in Houston.

It was awesome. I remember at one point we were looking at a soccer goalie, frozen in motion making a diving save, and said, "Bill Hartman would never leave this place. They'd have to call the cops and ask for help to remove the crazy and jacked guy who keeps talking about scapulae and hip joints."

That looks cool. Wish it were in a city I was heading to soon.

Russ and I went to a kid version body functions exhibit once at the Ontario Science center that was similar but interesting...

I would love to go see it. I missed it when it as out here, but what an opportunity to go and look at the body. A great visual aid to see the bodies internal organs, the path of arteries and nerves. I wish we had something like this close to where I live. I guess as someone involved in a medical field I may find it more exciting as a learning opportunity. No one seems to be bothered by the use of cadavers in med school. I guess because that is behind closed doors so to speak. I don't know, if my kids where older I would love for them to see it and get excited to see how their bodies work inside, the beautiful way each system works together to give us life. Nothing gross or disturbing about that.

I think it's awesome. Sure it's a little disturbing knowing that they were once living people, but it's great to see something real instead of a sketch in a textbook or a plastic model.

Go to the the official site that pjb923 posted and click on History of Anatomy, under the About the Exhibition heading. It's really neat to see a timeline that goes back that far.

i remember one of the last exhibits i saw was showing like 3 inches of fat and then how the fat went around the internal organs. so i'm looking at it...and here comes a very obese couple. they proceed to talk about how nasty the exhibit is and how fat that individual must have been.

i'm just listening to them, shaking my head in awe of them not realizing that the exhbit was showing them the future - i just wanted to shake them and say "thats what you look like"

I went to chicago specifically to see the Body World exhibit. It was great. I told eric to see it when he was in lincolnwood, but he didn't have enough time.

When I was visiting my mother up near D/FW, she had been and offered to take me but I didn't have the time... not sure I had enough interest.

We're getting a new "body farm" at our school. Should be like this one. Lots of politics going on as to where exactly to put it. I think they ruled out the end zone of the football field even though our team rarely uses it.

I think they are great, we used bodies alot for our anatomy classes and they were the best way to learn.

As long as they aren't disrespecting the dead then its fine by me.

I went to the one in NY last year! AWESOME! The "baby room" was kind of intense, but still really really cool. I think I want to go again now that I know more about anatomy than I did then. I would suggest going to see it.

We saw it in Atlanta last Summer. It was really cool. It's not that "gruesome," as the plastination technique really does make the bodies seem like extremely detailed plastic models. Some of the stuff is absolutely amazing. It's fine for kids - even my 7 year-old went. Of course the kids were going on and on about how gross it was, but they were just following the dramatic lead of my nephew (12 at the time) who was trying to act all cool and bored about it.
