I've been thinking about picking up a cigar or three. This just might be the motivation I need.
The only bad thing is that the smoke is so heavy and much that it in beds itself in everything around you. Everyone that rides in your truck for the next three years is going to know that you smoked a cigar
I used to smoke them quite a bit, then the child came along and I sort of quit.
A coworker of mine went to Cuba and brought me back a 1/2 dozen Romeo Y Julieta "Romeo #1". Wow, talk about a smoke that was smoooooooth as butter! I guess I loved it so since (a) it's been my first smoke since, oh, 1999 (b) it was a Cuban and (c) I smoked it on NYD, when it was 72F outside.
My old faves were Don Tomas SE 400 or Corona Grande. I think it's time to whip out the Amex and order another box.
My husband is a cigar FIEND! He has two decent-sized humidors INSIDE a wine cooler to keep them nice and cool and humidified. Gotta protect that investment, you know!

No thanks, I recently quit cigarettes, so I avoid smoke as a rule.
I was wondering if the Army's regs covered such things.
US bases are considered US soil for all given purposes (I think) with the vender's being obligated to follow US customs and restrictions. NATO bases don't fall under those rules so you can buy them there or on the economy.

And, he's bringing you along to the Summit, right?
Gobbla, I hear you on the smell. That's why I don't smoke them more. I only smoke them outside and 90% of the time, it's on the road, with the convertible top down. Even then, with leather seats, you can smell it the next day.
Usually, it's at the end of the day. Nice and relaxing on the way home.
Castufari, if you're looking to buy, make sure to check out JR's. It's so close to JP's, too. That's a plus...
I generally smoke two cigars a year, one at New Year's and one on July 4. My cigar of choice is a Cuesta-Rey Centro Fino #60. Former boss turned me on to those and haven't really found anything else I like as much.

... although technically it's illegal for any US citizen to purchase such things regardless of your location, I believe ...

the exception is if you're on business in Cuba. I was reading the customs.gov page earlier to see how illegal it would be to ship them to the states...apparently "very"

There is a JR a few hours east of me, the time I was in there they had a ton of brands but nothing I smoked.
Yes, they're illegal. Oddly that the laws don't apply to everyone - my dad (DoD) has brought them back with him from overseas trips and some of the lawmakers he knows smoke them also.
You're all welcome to come visit me up north. We have tons of cigar shops selling Cubans, catering mostly to US tourists.

It's only illegal if you get caught!
...and then you're just stupid.

I used to smoke an occassional cigar. Enjoyed it too, but bhortly after one night out that included cigars I signed up for life insurance. A nurse stopped by my house a couple of days later to give me a quick once over and asked me to fill a cup. No problem I thought.
What a dumbass! I tested positive for nicotine. I paid a "healthy smokers" premium for five years. After that time I was able to get tested again. That cigar cost me roughly $1,000!
Cuban cigars used to be far better than cigars from other countries, but not anymore. That time has passed. Now Cuban cigars offer a reputation.
They can still have a distinctive taste that can't be matched, but a Dominican, Honduran, or African cigar can't be matched by a Cuban, either.
Most of the "Cuban" cigars that you get in the US or Mexico are crappy or fake. But, they make them so strong to cover the bad taste that an infrequent/novice smoker can't tell. They just know that they are a ton stronger than the one they got at the golf course. Then they vomit.
