Yes. Another Computer Question (multiple monitors, this time)
I have a notebook. I also have an external monitor. I can find no way to save the settings for the two different setups. On the road, just he notebook screen. At home, the monitor is too the left of the notebook.
When I hook things up and enable "extended desktop," my notebook thinks the monitor is to the right, so I have to go off the right side to get the mouse to the left screen. Nice.
I can go to Properties and change it, but it take two or three times before it settles in and works. Then, annoyingly, the monitor is somehow the primary!
Currently, I'm not at home and only have the notebook screen. I can't save any pics to my harddrive, because the dialog is popping up on the screen at home. Anyhow, it's not popping up on the screen, here! Once I restart, it'll be fine, I'm sure.
Is there some way to save the settings? Like registry exports or something? I do those for my proxy settings between work and home. But, someone made them for me. I don't know what I'm doing.

Yes, thanks. I'm sure Firefox, Linux, OSX, etc. fixes everything. It always does.
You could create a different profile for your user, one that uses the laptop screen and another that defaults to the external monitor.

That it couldn't do....the dialog box could be appearing "off screen" but it can't appear at your home monitor unless it's somehow connected to your laptop.Read and try this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314478
Damn you LD for shooting down what was going to be my Linux joke before I even got to post it!
Oh yeah and I don't have an answer on this one as I don't use the multi.

I suppose you're right. When I left home, I powered it off so "save picture as" dialogs wouldn't freak anyone out.
http://www.entechtaiwan.com/util/ps.shtm might do it, I have a (l)user who is having the same issue, only she wants to have one setting for when she has her glasses on, one for contacts, etc.
Are you docking the laptop? If so the res should change once it's docked then revert when you undock. It should also have a toggle button (F whatever) to allow you to toggle between your laptop screen and an external device.

Not docking. I do have a key, but it only turns on the monitor, doesn't enable extended desktop.
On the taskbar, there's a graphic card mini-app that lets me enable the monitor and the extended desktop, in one move, but it always puts my external monitor on the right hand side. I have to go in the the screen properties and change it around every time.
