Blast hits U.S. Embassy compound in Athens
hmmm.....
Quote:
ATHENS, Greece (CNN) -- An explosion shook the U.S. Embassy in Athens, Greece, on Friday morning, an embassy staff member told CNN. No injuries were initially reported.
State-run NET television, quoting police, first reported the explosion occurred inside the main embassy building on the third floor, but the network later said police told them the explosion happened outside the building.
The staff member did not give details on the cause, size or scope of the blast, but local media reported it occurred about 5:55 a.m. (10:55 p.m. ET).
Police cordoned off streets around the embassy after the blast, causing a near-standstill of traffic during morning rush hour.
The embassy in Athens was the target of a rocket-propelled grenade attack on February 15, 1996. That attack caused minor damage.
