Default Do you believe in karma?

Monica and I love the show "My Name is Earl".

Every time it gets me thinking about karma. I believe in it, just wondered if you do?

I love that show!!

Not sure I can say I believe in Karma too literally (not sure I can align that with Christian theology!) but certainly our actions have consequences that we don't see.

I believe the basic principles of karma are inherently built into the universe. Reciprocity, actions and equal/opposite reactions and the like. I don't believe God or any other supreme being is watching the karma scale, dispensing out rewards and punishments based on behavior.

Agreed. However I feel that karma is much like the "Do unto others" or the movie "Pay it forward". It can't be a bad thing.

Hell yes. Sometimes karma is too slow so you have to give it a nudge

no.

for one whenever i see someone acting like a jackass, i never see instant justification of them being a jackass.

It's destined for a bad thing to happen to someone. When something bad happens to someone who is acting like a jackass, people will call it karma, but in reality, it's just part of what happens because no one has perfect days, one after the other.

Karma is a nice concept but I have seen way to many a holes get ahead in this world on the efforts of more deserving folks to put much stock in it.

Although my ex wife did marry some guy who ended up getting arrested for smuggling pot and is currently serving a 10 year sentence. I guess that is some kind of Karma.

I don't because I don't believe in reincarnation the way it's all set up to be.

And for some reason it is irritating to me when people use the word "karma" to mean something other than the real meaning of it... a force that works over lifetimes... not an instantaneous thing or a "what goes around comes around" kind of thing... but I guess a word hasn't been invented for "short-term karma" and people don't know better.

No, but I believe in the soul. The c**k. The p***y. The small of a woman's back. The hanging curveball. High fiber. Good scotch. That the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent, overrated crap. I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe there ought to be a Constitutional Amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas eve. And I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days...Goodnight.

Does karma have to work on a linear time scale? Could I be punished today for being an asshole when I'm 80? Just curious.

My answer to the thread's title question: Not really, but I do enjoy seeing people get what they deserve.

I believe in Karma. I over tipped the waiter the other night by like $10. Right when I walked outside, I saw 2 shooting stars. I made somebody happy. (Plus, when you work for tips, it's nice to have the tipping karma on your side )
