We used some of those pictures as part of our training on drug abuse and OD's. It is so horrible what these kinds of addictions can do to a persons, body, mind and spirit. It is just aweful.

"I don't mind at all," I said. "It doesn't matter who you are or what you look like so long as somebody loves you."
You could also do a comparison like that for people who just had their third child.
Meth does funny things to people. I know of many stories from people in my own community (formerly prominent) who have given up any pretense of integrity and would pretty much lick the scum off a gas station bathroom floor if you told them you would give them $50 to do it. Very very sad.

There are three things in my life which I really love: God, my family, and baseball. The only problem - once baseball season starts, I change the order around a bit. ~Al Gallagher, 1971
I can personally attest to the negative effects of meth. I personally know several people who went off the deep end and lost their health, homes and families. Ended up living wherever someone would let them stay, and when the hospitality ran out, they lived in their cars. It really is sad, because it gets such a hold on people... and it's a hard hold to break! I've read that less than 5% of users who try to get clean end up staying clean.

For those who still remain unconvinced as a result of this clarification, we can look to Japan for answers. They invented meth in 1919 and endured an epidemic of abuse during the post-war American Occupation the likes of which this country will hopefully never have to experience.
Bill: My suspicion is that these were all known users even in their before picture, otherwise how would they know to take before and afters of them?
without having looked at the pics, I did see a show on meth abuse, where a sheriff got the idea to take pics of offenders on their first offense (or so) and keep a pictorial record of them as they came through the system, again and again.
My cousin is just off the stuff, for a few months now, and my aunt sent me a picture of him. I would have never known it was him. Terrible, awful stuff.
Dealing drugs is murder, pure and simple. Just a look at those pictures and you can see that someone has taken their lives away as surely as if they had put a gun to their head. How sad.

Those people all looked pretty messed up even in their before pictures. The one that is the least messed up looking, young girl, bottom right, page 2, is also the least messed up looking in the after picture.
I would almost go so far as to say that the before pics have been taken with the idea to make them look as normal as possible ala the Craig Ballantyne fat loss transformation, only in reverse and with meth.
Not saying that drugs aren't bad, aren't going to fuck up your life or any of that, cause they are and they will, just that this might not be an entirely 100% accurate portrayal.

I saw this yesterday and spent a good amount of time on that website, but couldn't post ... it is just a bit upsetting ... I have an aunt who is 5 years older than me and a meth addict ... well, I should say recovered addict ... the family trust paid for her to go to a very expensive rehab clinic outside SLC (she lives in Utah) and she has been clean now for a while (her current boyfriend is a recovering alcoholic, but HATES drugs so that helps). The pictures of meth mouth could be hers ... it is totally disgusting!!!
On an interesting side note ... we have a summer place in Canaan, NH (which is near Dartmouth) and I had occasion to be at the local police department a few summers back after our cottage was broken into. They have a poster in their lobby of this gentleman with a bit more background info ...
Note the police tag says "Manchester, NH" ... apparently his first arrest was for marijuana possesion ... the next was either meth or heroin, I can't remember ... the poster they had showed several more stages ... in the span of the two years, there were more than these three photos ... more like 8 or 9 if I remember correctly ...each corresponding to an arrest for possesion or vagrancy or something ... it has haunted me terribly the past few years.
Did anyone see The Basketball Diaries with Leonardo DiCaprio? Same thing ... this film just haunted me ... it's just such a waste ... and so sad ... and the impact on families is tremendous ...
