I thought Cillian Murphy's performance was spot-on as well as Rachel McAdams'. It's not a classic Wes Craven flick, but it's certainly one of his better ones.
Wow. I jumped in parts, I find Rachel McAdams adorably cute, and I found the movie kinda contrived.
I wasn't expecting anything really, it was a "let's go to the movies and find one when we get there" night, and I wasn't disappointed. But I can't say I would call it "good."

Oh my god, I can't believe I haven't included the following film in this discussion yet. But I'm watching it right now and have seen it before. It's an excellent little movie that I wished more people saw when it was released here in the states for it's oh so slim run.
"Millions".
Great little film. Well written, terrifically acted and overall, very memorable (fun, dramatic and just a wee bit quirky).
And two more! "Crank" - anyone see this one yet? And while I haven't seen it yet, I do really want to see this: "The Illusionist".
yea i saw millions, it was pretty good. they aired the shit out of it on HBO.
didn't see crank. looks like another remake of the transporter... the dude can do some crazy martial arts stuff though.
Actually, it's better than the Transporter. MUCH Better.
Heh, and yeah, "Millions" just aired on HBO; hell, I'd rather they play the shit out of good movies like Millions than pieces of crap.
I revisited "Brokeback Mountain" a couple of weeks ago, too (it's on again on HBO), and man, I still can't believe that movie didn't win Best Picture. Such an amazing movie. Well that and "A History of Violence".

i actually thought capote was awesome and deserved to win as well. Crash i think was grossly overrated and not that good. brokeback mountain waas pretty good coming from a hetrosexual male. haha. Even if it had been a boy/girl couple in the movie, it would have been a solid movie. Good story.
What do you think is going to be nominated this year? Departed, the dreamers?
and i thought history of violence was awesome... but good luck getting a cronenberg movie get any recognition from the academy.

I thought Brokeback should have won Best Picture due to:
cinematography - gorgeous. Sweeping. Almost epic, even.
script - very real dialogue. And in so many areas, heartbreaking.
directing - my god - not only because I'm such an Ang Lee fan, but man, that dude created a movie that transcended social walls and stereotypes and did it so effortlessly.
groundbreaking - this movie was tremendously groundbreaking. Absolutely no doubt about it.
As for "Crash", one of the most forgettable Best Picture winners ever. Ever. And what a list it's now a part of. But really that movie was worthless.
This year? In a perfect world the following movies would be nominated for not only Best Picture, but other catagories:
The Fountain
Pan's Labyrinth
Borat (seriously. This movie has been included in many Top 10 lists)
Brick
Children of Men
United 93
Slithers
Marie Antoinette
Little Children
The Departed
I know I'm missing two or three more on that list - but I'm sure you know what movies there will NOT be recognized.
Of that list, I'd say the sure one for Best Picture will definitely be The Departed. And mostly cuz, Scorsese is due. Holy shit is he due. He was due for Goodfellows which was THE best of the year; not "Dancing With Wolves". He was due for the Best Film of the 80s, "Raging Bull". But now, he's due for making "Infernal Affairs" look f'n amazing in the form of an H-town production. Holy crap, will someone finally give this man an Oscar?
I haven't seen Babel, yet. But I really think this movie will give the Oscar folks another reason to NOT give it to Marty.
I really liked the Illusionist when I saw it, but I guess it was forgettable, since I had to dig to remember it. I remember really liking it at the time.
I liked the mystery, romance, fairy-tale thing about it.
I can't believe I missed Little Miss Sunshine in the theatre. I have in my queue. I just have to get caught up on my watching to get it shipped, I guess.
This Hungarian box office smash hit and winner of the Prix de la Jeunes award at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival takes place entirely underground in the Budapest subway system. A variety of personalities converge on the turnstiles, including a dashing young man, an exotic woman and a murderer, all of whom are desperately racing against time and their surroundings to find one another … before they are found themselves.

I saw Children of Men last night, and it was very good. Love the way it was directed, the hand held camera technique, and also the extended shots w/o cuts.
I also thought a lot of the war scenes were like black hawk down or SPR.
The disturbing part of the movie is that you can acutally imagine something like this happening.

Cuaron is climbing my list of favorite directors. He did an amazing job with this movie
did you notice how the shots didn't cut when clive own was walking up the stairs in the building at the end?
Yep. That whole sequence was just awesome.
Funny thing though. We got done watching that movie (in downtown Boston) and as we walked outside, there were fireworks going off for New Years Eve in Boston Common. It sounded like we were IN the movie....haha.
Children of Men. Another sci fi drama - directed by Alphonso Cuaron; he who directed Little Princess (beautiful, absolutely stunning) and the best (so far) Harry Potter - The Prisoner of Azkaban. This one stars Clive Owen (who keeps choosing some really great compelling roles), and Julianne Moore. Simple synopsis: in the future, humankind is on the brink of extinction; women can't get pregnant. And there is one woman who is discovered is pregnant - and possibly holds the key to our survival.
Saw this on Saturday night. What a great movie. I think I was in the wrong audience, though. You know how a lot of Blade Runner's subtlety is lost on the average movie-goer? Same with this one. The characters were intriguing, but I think that was lost on my audience. I loved the movie, though.
Thumbs waaaay up. Great movie. It wasn't life changing, like some people have made it out to be. But, it was a great film nonetheless.
Something to tell us Tony?
