Back from a long hiatus!
Man, it feels good to be back finally. As some of you know, I was diagnosed last July with Cluster Headache Syndrome which has been described as 100 times more painful than migraine and the worst pain any human will ever endure and still survive. Up till just recently, I was getting anywhere between 6-10 headaches a day with 3-4 of them being severe enough that I will literally beat my head against any hard surface I can find at the moment. I pace, rock back and forth, scream, and yes even cry.
The daily meds I was taking weren't helping much so back in October I sought out a second opinion at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. After a few days of being treated like a patient on the Fox show "House", the neurologist there confirmed a diagnosis of CHS, but further defined it as "chronic", meaning I've had these headaches for more than a year with no more than a consecutive 2 week remission period. He started me on prednisone that I tapered down for 16 days and verapamil (a heart medication) for maintenance.
I immediately saw improvement as my headaches dropped to about 4-6 a day with only 1-2 being severe enough I was wishing I was dead. I've gradually been getting better with this new med, so much better that I finally was able to get back into the gym this past Monday after being out of it for more than 6 months. My last severe headache was 2 days ago and that's a record even for me in the last year. Yesterday I had my first almost completely pain free day in months. So far today, I haven't even had a glimmer of a headache. I'm really hoping that I've finally got this beast tamed and put back in his cage where he belongs.
I've really hated taking all the pain meds that I've been on for over a year. Some of them are extremely scary as everything I've got is a either a Schedule IV narcotic or some form of barbituate. I also carry my intranasal Imitrex and an O2 tank with me alsmot everywhere I go. I feel like the walking wounded!!!
Here's hoping this is all behind me now and I can my life back on track!

Jamie, good to have you back in the JPF fold. Personally I think this CH thing was all a plot by Daniel Craig to get you out of the spotlight while his picture got released. Bastard.
