When my wife and I went to NY a couple years ago, I made it a point to visit the Dakota and the memorial in Central Park...very moving. Died way, way, way too young. Freakin' shame.

I recently went to the John Lennon Wall in Prague. He inspired a lot of people with his simple message of peace.

A professor that I assisted my senior year of college was a Juilliard student at the time. He was less than a block away and heard the shot, turned and saw the commotion down the street.
The world lost a visionary artist that day.

That's cool and all that we remember John Lennon but...
Sorry, but that doesn't seem too sincere.

That's cool and all that we remember John Lennon but, forgive if I missed it, where was the reminder yesterday of Pearl Harbor?
Just a thought. I know I didn't post anything on it either.
I talked to my kids about Pearl Harbor (I'll skip the "u" since it's a proper noun ... ) last night. 65 years. Didn't think to post though.

I guess naivity just makes it easier to remember one famous guy's murder than thousands of regular guys' murders. After all they were soldier and sailors- you know killers. John Lennon just wanted to give peace a chance.
I just erased a whole big paragraph on this because this really has struck a nerve with me. I had better just shut up.
TAVF: I didn't forget Pearl Harbor Day. My wife, kids and I discussed it at dinner that night. I asked my kids if it had been talked about at school and the answer was no. When I was a kid, I seem to remember that 'something' happened at school. Anyway, I'm betting that a lot of people remembered the day and took a few moments to think about.
Your post here just seems like sour grapes. Maybe it would have been better if you had started a Pearl Harbor post - better late than never (you could still do it). Instead you chose to post here and belittle the fans of John Lennon who wanted to remember his contributions to the world.
Peace brother. Have a good day.

Just because I started a thread on this doesn't mean that Pearl Harbor was forgotten (I watched a great documentary on it the night before). Just wanted to post the John Lennon reminder since I was listening to his stuff at work. Really wasn't intending to get anyone upset with it...

Jax, my apologies for bringing this up in your thread. It was definitely not the right place to do so. I was simply stating something I noticed and got carried away.
This is one of the reasons I love this place so much. Jim was out of place, recognized the fact and apologized to Jax. Classy way to go. As for Jax, despite the fact he was a little taken aback by Jim's comments, he didn't lash out but behaved civilly. Also, classy. JPF people rock.
PS Lennon would be impressed I think.
