The first time I had to give a public speech was in Girl Scouts in 4th grade. I was very nervous. I really, really had to pee, but it was my time to speak, so I waited. Big mistake, lol. Peed right there in my pants in front of all the Girl Scouts.
But you know what the most memorable thing about it all was? We had a mentally retarded girl in our troop and she was rather obnoxious in her behavior. None of us liked her or wanted to hang out around her. We avoided her. But when I had this accident. It was this girl that simply put her arm around me and headed me down the hall toward the bathroom. When I came back she was mopping the floor. She never said a word and never brought it back up again. That made such a big impression on me. Everybody has a gift to offer us. She knew what it was like to feel embarassed, so she knew how to help.
