*For US citizens who are members of this forum... This isn't for the Current Events forum, this is for everyone. Tomorrow don't forget to exercise your right to vote. Most of you know which way I lean, but I honestly don't care who you vote for as long as you don't stay home.
George Washington was offered the crown shortly after winning the revolutionary war, but he declined the crown opting for presidential elections, setting in stone a way of life we have always had, and sometimes take for granted.
You were given that freedom to express your opinions... It is sacrosanct. Do it, or feel the WRATH of JP!!!
Any prizes for those of us that have already voted?

I don't know the candidates or any of the issues involved, so should I just vote based on whose name I like better?
No. More than likely, there will be pamplets available wherever you go to vote - read them and base your vote on the information provided. Next time (2008), become knowledgeable about the issues in advance.
I take this very seriously as our right to vote is the base of our democracy. So I really don't take this lightly. Not at all.
Yes, "Georgie" was re-elected two years ago. These are the mid-term elections- senatorial races (senate seats are for 6 years, therefore evry 2 years a third of the senate is up for re-election), congressional seats, ballot proposals, judge seats, local races and issues etc.
Whenever I listen to someone complain about the government or election officials, I usually ask them, "So, did you vote in the last election?" If their reply is "no," then they really have no right to complain.

Man, you guys only get stickers? Up here, we get the Queen passing out cups of tea.
Though not an American, I too encourage you all to vote. Democracy will fail if it is not carefully nurtured. Don't take it for granted.

I say that if you vote, then you are showing that you accept our current system as a reasonable way of deciding who "runs" our country. Only those who reject the system outright get to complaign about the outcome... I'm not actually even sure if I'm kidding.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm brushing up on my soldering skills and reviewing my Diebold manual.
Oh boy. There are many others that also get elected, senate, house, locals like mayor, councilman. I have to go vote for our current mayor.
We have to vote for every freakin' judge in every freakin' state court. It's hard to have any idea who you should vote for in many of these positions. Voting for judges is how we wound up with "The Ten Commandments" Judge Roy Moore as Chief Justice of our state Supreme Court a few years ago.
I see your governor got turned away at the ballot box, Howie! Oops.

Us, too. Yes or No to keep them on. Know one knows who they even are. Need a better system.

Considering the quality of many of our Governors (although we currently have a very good one for a change), I don't know whether I would want the Executive branch in Alabama appointing them.
I left work early to get my vote in. When I got home I had five messages on my answering machine, all urging me to get out and vote. The irony is that I voted for the other side in the two most important races.
