Default Surge not allowed...

RANT

As I finished dead-lifting last night at my university gym I was approached by a gym employee and told that I would have to pour out my non-water (Surge) drink or leave it at the front desk. I turned around walked over to the day use locker got my jacket when I turned back around I noticed that she had followed me I looked straight at her slammed the locker door and left.

She had to come from somewhere across the vast expanse of my gym because I was in the corner and hadn’t seen her anywhere near me.

Here is the link to my gym’s rules.

My question: Why wasn’t the guy lifting in blue jeans and cowboy boots told to leave or the guy lifting not 15 feet from me in flip-flops told to put on closed toed shoes or leave?

Was your surge in a bottle or open container? I don't like people bringing "sticky when spilled" drinks onto my gym floor either, but I don't mind if they have them in a gatorade type bottle.

I'm not so strict on the bluejeans or open toed shoes, although I probably should be. It sounds like she was just bored and felt like being a pain in your arse. Maybe she was just looking for a way to start up conversation with you cause she thought you were attractive?

Sadly, their gym, their rules. Next time put the Surge in an opaque water bottle. It's doubtful they'll ask you to verify what's in it.

I didn't see surge or sticky drinks named specifically, but here's the most appropriate rules I saw:
  • Water, in plastic containers with re-sealable caps is allowed.
  • Rule of Thumb: If it tips over there can't be a possibility of it spilling
Thus, make sure it's in a closable sports bottle and keep it covered. I use a bottle that has an insulated jacket. No one would know what's in it.

It was in an clear orange nalgene bottle, today it was in an opaque blue nalgene bottle. I have used clear green and smoke colored bottles in the past with no problems, but normally I'm there at 6:00 am and no one seems to care.

I would switch to a sport top bottle as Cynic mentioned and I bet they never bother you again.

maybe i'm missing the obvious alternative...

keep the drink in your car and drink it after workout? or in your gymbag/locker?

Alcoholiday:

The point is to be able to get the nutrients while you're working out (a "Key Takeaway" from Nutrient Timing [& Metabolism Advantage]).

if your workouts are 45-an hour, and you eat a solid meal beforehand, it's not going to make that big of a difference. if you need to sugar spike, bring some sweet tarts and much on them

Doesn't matter if it makes a difference or not. If he wants to drink is drink while working out, he should be able, god damnit

It really doesn't matter since I solved the problem by remembering to only use a dark nalgene. I make sure I don't drink it while on the equipment so I don't drip any on the equipment.

My big gripe was that she had to seek me out to tell me I couldn't have anything but water, when she had to walk past the people lifting in flip-flops. I think there are more important things to take care of.

And there is no way I'm leaving a drink mix in my car for anytime in Oklahoma I made that mistake with a bottle of muscle milk in August. That was a very bad thing I did.

Lol, I have these cool guys in my gym also. Noone in cowboy boots though in NJ, but people wearing jeans and button downs, flip flops and cargos on the eliptical, or too small tank tops.

I use my standard shaker bottle to keep my workout drink in with no problems. Of course my college gym is staffed by college kids.
