Default iPod Recommendations

I'm ready to enter the 21st Century and buy an iPod. Downloading Podcasts to CD's is a pain!

I haven't paid much attention to the iPod market... I don't think I would use it for much aside from downloading podcasts to listen to when I am commuting in place of the boring local talk radio. Probably some music as well, and my wife and kids would likely use it for music. None of us are likely to rack up a massive music library, though, so I don't think I need maximum storage.

Any suggestions for good buys?? Thanks!

Dave, I love my 5G 30g video iPod. I think it's worth it to go ahead and get the video screen. It's so much easier to see it, even if you're not using it for actual video. I did end up putting some photos of my vacation on there to share with people at work. That was cool. But I mostly use it for music and the FitCast. It's easy to use in the car. I think the bigger screen is nice for the car.

I'd go with the nano. Then, for an extra $30, you can pick up one of these.

note: there are a bunch of websites with instructions on fitting the sensor to non-Nike+ shoes.

Thanks for the suggestions! I've read about those sensors - pretty neat. I already have my GeekWatch Forerunner, though. Believe it or not, I probably won't run with the iPod. I need my ears for traffic and the sound of approaching attack Pit Bulls in the area.

I recently bought the Ipod 30g and am really enjoying it. There are a ton of free podcasts to download, NPR, news, etc. But I'm also liking the FREE downloads of some TV shows. If you were willing to pay about $2 each, you can also get whole seasons of tv shows and short films...all without commericals and watch at your leisure

I'll chime in on the 30g 5th gen IPOD as well. I hemmed and hawed about it for a long time, but I love it. Just picked up an adapter for the car and it's AWESOME! I've even bounced it off of the floor a couple of times while working out...yes I'm one of those people. Make sure you get a good plastic cover/condom for it and one that has a face cover or you'll have a scratched face on your iPOD. Also don't clean the cover with a paper towel...it scratches it...as i found out!

Man, you guys are a bunch of enablers!

The video iPod's do sound tempting. My wife and daughters would no doubt appreciate the tv show downloads for car trips. OTOH, this is supposed to be my toy, so maybe I need something boring that they won't be interested in.

I have a 6 gig mini but am thinking of upgrading to the 30g video as well.

This reminds me of what we used to do in the van when I was on funeral detail. We would get a laptop, an FM transmitter, and some DVDs, place the laptop on the center console, and enjoy movies while we were driving 3-4 hours to some funeral home. Of course, the driver would watch the movie too. That's what the reflectors on the road are for. Hell, you might as well take a nap!
