This is a rerun, right? I think I remember watching a lot of that on tv before, since I remember being grossed out by the thoughts of all the fluid leaking from the bicep when he was discussing that.
I really don't understand how anyone can do that do their body. They mentioned something that bodybuilders termed "Bigorexia", the exact opposite of anorexia. No matter how big you get, you look in the mirror and think you are still small.
Who knows if that is what is really wrong with Valentino. But there is no question that he has some kind of sickness.
You would think than having to drain 2 cups of blood from a hematoma in your arm would wake you up, but not him. His biggest concern was the pieces of muscle that needed to be cut into leaving an indentation and giving him uneven biceps.
I do agree with Frank S on the overall one sidedness of the show. It was like an hour long anti-steroid rant. They only showed the most extreme users and the absolute worst side effects. Either way, it was an interesting show.

I can relate to that, I still see an 18 stone lardy guy without muscle. Not anorexic as dont wanna get slim but wanna get bulging. Those around me tell me I am starting o and I really dont see it

I finally saw it. I don't think it really even showed the full picture, let alone just one side of it.
The guy who won mr USA who claimed that he was natural for his first 23 titles was lying through his teeth, as was Valentino about being natural for the first 23 years. And that first guy's heart attack was directly related to his steroid use, as was Ah-nold's in my opinion.
Those guys didn't just do a few little cycles either. They take $50-$100K worth of steroids a year, taking 10-20 different kinds at a time at 10 times the recommended dosage each, never going off cycle, and they act amazed that their organs give out on them.
If anything, I don't think they showed the real depths of the dark side of steroids. I saw guys doing worse than what those freaks on the show claimed they did in local gyms. It is so much worse than people can imagine.
Oh, and Valentino's infection was from injecting synthol into his arms. The shape he attained is not even possible with steroids. Notice Coleman, as disgusting as his body looks, doesn't even have such deformed arms.
I felt sorry for that one young sap who wanted to be a bodybuilder. My assessment of him was that he was obviously wounded over being bullied, combined with struggling with latent homosexual tendencies, possibly combined with some antisocial disorder. He's a perfect candidate with those credentials. All he lacks is genetics.
Did anyone notice how all the bodybuilders wore heavy belts and did lot's of leg press? And that former mr USA... what the hell kind of program did he have those people on? His answer to natural training is to push people not on juice harder than people on juice? Not that most of those guys weren't doing some gear. They were pretty "jacked" (as I've been hearing lately). But if you're natural, the last routine you want to follow in the world is a routine put together by a former juicehead who's never known training any other way.
Did anyone notice how the featured bodybuilders all had to slide in stories of their former sexual conquests? Jesus, those people were such losers.
Whatever it is there is something Definitely wrong with Valentino. The guy looks like a lumpy sack of potatoes with a head sticking out. He no longer even looks human. In the end I really can't relate to the desire to be huge. I want to be lean and feel strong and I would prefer that without having to organize eating 5K calories a day.
I couldnt believe that he was trying to operate on himself and using a camera to film the whole thing. As if you can just drain the infection out like you were popping a zit. As someone who spends a lot of time reading and learning I am absolutely confused at times by the stupidity of some people. Maybe the steroids gave him a Rambo complex.
So how big can you get before you need steroids to add mass? I am sure there is a big genetic component, but what are the upper limits of natural development?

I think that is because sex or the lack there of is the reason that alto of these guys get into this stuff in the first place. The problem is that having a huge body doesn't solve the underlying problems that they have. Most of the time people like the men featured in this show wind up rendering themselves sexually useless. I think that this is the ultimate irony of the whole thing.

I agree with you on that one CC. The bigger question then is why do magazines feed the fire by glorifying this destructive behavior, and worse yet making them health icons!

Because they are feeding an addiction.

If they bothered to do a little research, they would find that women don't consider hyooooge a factor.
I think that they really aren't chasing women at all. I think they are really trying to be better than some ideal male figure that they have in their mind(ie the highschool linebacker that got all the girls).
Look at who they really sell to. The magazines convince these guys that they are something that they are not. If you take a close look at these magazines the underlying message is " You are bigger! You are stronger! You are sexier than that highschool linebacker that got all the girls". They are convinced that they are the ultimate male figure. Just look at the women that are in these magazines and are I'm sure are paid to climb all over them at these shows. It's all a sham to feed these poor warped men.

I do want to add before I start catching it from some folks that I am sure that there are some normal competitive men and women doing this. Many of them probably see through the sham that it really is but they just figure " Hey I'm good at it and it pays the bills so why not do it" but I do think that the bodybuilding market is built on the insecure sexually frustrated male.

I dunno.. The big and muscular guys seem to do alright with the ladies. Look at arnold haha.
I would say some bb'ers do have issues with self-image, but not all, and not even the majority.
I think its a pretty cool sport.. I have noticed that with age comes different opinions on it.
Also about them killing their sex drives with drugs, yes it can happen. But most serious pro-drug guys out there are not cycling test anymore, they are just always on. This would give you a pretty amazing sex drive is my bet?

Yeah, your drive would be through the ceiling while you're on, as long as your endocrine system holds out.
I have personally never met a bodybuilder who desired to compete (myself included from in my early 20's) who didn't have body image issues. I see how they are now and shudder with embarrassment that I was anything like that... They are so freakin' narcissistic that it's scary.
Plus, it's not a sport. BB'ing comps are basically pageants.

I could see competing if I ever trained to that level. I work out with a couple of bodybuilders, I dont think they have image issues, for the most part its just somthing that they are good at and compete for fun.
Wont get into the 'not a sport' thing. I dont agree with that, but I can see how you could beleive that.
I guess I am referring more to the industry as a whole. There is not a single "idol" in the industry who ass isn't a pin cushion at this point.
I generally don't think of people who work out hard and get good results. I think of them as fit people. In that sense, I see where you're coming from. But when they start getting the desire to grease up, wear a little shiny banana hammock and strike poses before a throng of fetishists, then I start to doubt that they don't have issues.
THAT'S a visual. You may just have the genes to pull that off with enough synthol and steroids!
I think I could do it, though shopping for suits would be tricky (and don't ask about renting a tux :p ). I suppose I should check with my girlfriend before embarking on this :p
