Well Kevin, what is your wife doing over here with me?

Welcome to the world of running your own board. It won't be long before the knuckleheads are outnumbered and order (along with good sense) will be restored.

I told you Kevin, this is the best forum out there!!! That place needs a major overhaul, it wasn't always that bad. Its hard to take and let me tell you I've gotten pretty heated up over there too. Often, lots of newbie and people that don't know a whole lot. You know what they say a little knowledge can be dangerous!!! Hopefully with you guys there it will improve for the poor people that really need the help. There are a couple guys on there that are knowledgable but they are so busy that they don't get on often enough to keep things right.

I just came across the fitness.com forums and saw that Jenn and Larrabee are posting there, so I figured it can't be that bad. I actually just finished posting my new member intro.

I did spend a little time reading and already found a load of bad advice. Like someone recommending a specialized arm program from Flex magazine to a fairly new lifter.

I am a member on at least a half dozen forums, and this is the only one that I make regular posts to.
There is just something about everyone here that makes me feel comfortable posting, that I have yet to find on another message forum, no matter what the subject matter.

JP, I don't know how you managed to do it, but keep it up. This is by far the best forum around.

Kevin thats one of the problems with putting yourself out there and trying to educate people. They must know better than somebody that is either studying fitness and nutrition or already making a living from it. They have probably read two or three articles on the subject holy shit they could be trainers for Bally's.

Give them hell and come home for moral support as needed.

Kevin,
Many people reform their lives after a near death experience. Now you know why. It's dark out there, isn't it?

Good for you for trying to spread the word, Kevin. I only come to this board now (well, and yours as of yesterday!) because I just can't take too much more of the newbie questions/attitudes and know-it-all BS of the typical "internet experts". We are spoiled beyond belief here. At least half a dozen times a day at the my gym I'm asked about spot-reduction, what's the best way to get a six-pack, do I recommend the leg-press or leg extensions, etc. etc. And of course nobody, I mean nodody likes it when I answer their physique questions with, "What's your diet like?"

Here it's nice and orderly and helpful. Well, it has been ever since I quit venturing into the Current Events forum!

Kevin thanks for warning about fitness.com. I used to be a member in worldfitness.com long long long time back. JP posted there. Sometime back I saw Jenn and Cynic there. But JP's place is by far the best.

Yeah, I still frequent there, hoping to save some poor soul. Bipennate came over to help straighten out a young man who was falling in with the bad crowd and Bip has been real busy since, taking people to task over WO designs and people calling him on studies he's posted.

We did seem to get through to the 15 yr old. He's going to do HGM.

Wow, you people are sure full of yourselves. This board is okay, but it is definately not the best board out there. I could go to other boards and talk about some of the dumb stuff that is posted here. I rarely post here because I have found most of the people are fairly closed minded when it comes to fitness. Any idea that doesn't come from the small number of fitness and nutrition experts is usually ignored or summarily dismissed.

It is tough in there. But I am going to try to help a little bit.

See what I can do. With you Jenn and BIp by my side we can do it. Like the Super Fitness Friends.

Nanook, the whole board over there promotes a body-part split, working a particular muscle group (chest for example) to death one day a week. There's research showing that 2-3 times per week is much more beneficial and compound movements build a better body.

They are stating opinions, backed by what? Self-analysis, so that's like saying it worked for me, so it'll work for you. So, body-part splits will work better for some, but again, the research shows that a program designed around 2-3 times/wk for each muscle group is much more beneficial to the general populus.

One guy was advocating 1 set of 15 reps for 1-2 weeks, for someone wanting to build strength.

Kev your doing great so far. Just remember you can only help the people thta want help. I have tried numerous times to help but some people just do not wnat to listen. Hopefully with the fitcast it will be different. I'm still trying to conver a lot of the cardio bunnies that pm me endlessly. So far a couple have started lifting but a lot just don't get it. It's too bad really, but in time that will hopefully change.
