Default They can take it from my cold dead hands!

The ABC pres want's to take away the fast forward button on DVR's. I don't know about any of you, but I couldn't watch TV anymore if I didn't have a DVR. I use the fast forward button to skip commercials that I have no interest in. If something looks interesting I'll go back and watch it. First it was the RIAA and now this. Why can't they realize they need to change their business model every once in a while?

I remember reading something about this being incorporated into some brands of TVs as well preventing you from changing the channel during a commercial, or some other nonsense. Of course, simple laws of supply & demand will prevent this from going out there (unless a bunch of people buy those). Still a load of crap, and I'd rather not watch a show than be forced to sit through commercials and not be able to do anything about it.

Of course, yet another benefit to building your own computers: I won't implement the blocking of the fast-forward button

They'll start using the cell phone mentality maybe... Give you free TVs where you are forced to watch their sponsor's ads if you want to watch your content of choice.

They are probably borrowing from the way the Net works. Most companies make you sit through some stupid ad before they put up a news clip or video. If they want to be so draconian, start giving away TVs and DVRs, and make the sponsors pay for it.

I would never buy such a model personally. I love my FF button, and I skip commercials all the time. It really speeds up my shows.

I may start looking into MythTV.
