Default Hell week.

This week I’m moving into a new apartment, not more than eight blocks away from where I live now, though seemingly into a nicer neighborhood due to the distance from the University. It’s a cozier apartment, code word for smaller, but the amenities are as follows:
  • The landlord pays all the utilities.
  • The landlord will let me set up my gym in the basement. This is augmented by an entirely enclosed pathway to the basement.
  • No east facing windows. I work ffice:smarttags" />6:30pm – 6:30am, so I sleep during the day. No more blankets over the windows to keep out the morning sun, but I’ll probably still need some cover for the one window in the bedroom.
  • A greater distance from the University, so hopefully I’ll see less drink induced fights. It’ll still be within walking/biking distance.
  • It provides a garage for my car.
  • Lower ceilings, so I’ll be able to replace burned out bulbs without the need for the Milwaukee Fire Department’s Hook and Ladder engine.
The negatives:
  • Smaller, so I’ll need to unload some of my stuff. The ex-wife’s stuff is the first to go. Anyone want to buy a $960 la-z-boy recliner with fugly elephant and monkey pattern upholstery?
  • The shower/bath is back to a regular curtain enclosure (my current has sliding glass doors).
  • A slightly higher rent paid.
However, I think in all, it’s a better deal as I’ll pay less in the long run and start saving for a house or condo (I’m still apprehensive about mowing my own lawn and shoveling my own sidewalks). I expect about a week of sandbag type training (what I affectionately call plow horse training), then a week of highly aerobic wax on/wax off training. Daniel-san got nothing on me.

However, hell week started early. The Sat to Sun transition saw the temperatures rise from an average of 60degs to over 80 degrees. Sunday the landlord’s wife had a showing and my place is full of boxes packed with my excessive belongings and still some major cleaning required. So from 10pm Sat to 8am Sunday it was a flurry of packing, cleaning and straightening, two hours of nap time, then more PCS work, the showing, a shower and a couple hours of sleep to be ready for work, Monday morning saw the hottest day of the year at 88 degrees and without A/C, I can’t sleep. In the 48 hour period, I got 5.5 hours of sleep. I’m surprised I didn’t make a big time blunder on the job.
I’m excited about moving in to the new place and figure I can get the rack setup on the 7th, maybe the 6th if I can get the big things done in a reasonable time (bed and kitchen setup). I expect to be out of touch from the 5th to the 8th.
An exciting week, I hope. Still, I envy those with a permanent living space.

Hell? I think it is pretty wonderful. Having the Landlord set up a Gym for you? How much more better can it get?

Congratulations on the new place. Permanent living space comes with it's own baggages, so please don't envy Now time to get some sleep.

Um, Ruma, you need to go back and reread.

He's not setting it up for me, he's just letting me set up my own. Still, it is good. I'm hoping he doesn't think it's a itty bitty bench and few plates. All I need is one tenent to complain and I suspect I'll have to take it all down.

The hell part is that I'm moving myself. A week of little trips culminating in the movers coming on the 6th to move the big stuff. I don't like the heat. I'd rather it was cold than hot.

Yeah.. I re-read. My bad. Now all of a sudden I am hating the landlord Jk.

If you are moving yourself.. then you can skip the workout for the entire week. Just trying to bring the postives. Sorry it was so bad for you. Now cheer up

Time to join a gym, Cynic! Surely you can afford 30-50 per month for a membership somewhere. The change of atmosphere will really motivate you too (I think).

That sounds like a very ugly recliner. That doesn't say much for you if you got that out of the divorce. Sorry for you on that one. Moving is good too, cleaning and purging always make me feel good.

Try to get some rest. Hopefully it will cool down some for you.

Oh no! It's much better than that, Erika. She bought two of these fugly chairs. All darker brown earthtones (I'm not against earth tones, but sometimes it looks dirty). I got one.

JP, I do belong to a gym, but it's the environment that unmotivated me, somewhat. People clanging the DBs, watching guys hit themselves in the abs, and too many times in the locker room, getting sandwiched between Harry Fahtaz and Richard "The Dick" Grunter.

I want to reach out to these people (except Fahtaz and Grunter) and show them a better way, but it's not for me to say. I'll just setup my home gym and never have to wait. I'll still visit the gym now and then, but not often.

End of the semester. Time to find a place that doesn't know us and our habits/fetishes.

If you don't mind dropping names what gym were you at. The WAC downtown has some mighty nice scenery and it is not as bad as the local gym chain. I know that is not what we are there for but between sets you have to look at something.

The WAC was too expensive at the time, even though it was my first choice. I didn't see the inside, but the floor layout looked good, and I'm sure the scenery is very nice and upscale.

Beachhead, here's a pic. This thing might be perfect for someone's Safari room, but it's too ugly for everyday people.

ROFL!!! Would you believe my ex- paid > $960 for the thing, times 2?

I think she wanted an expensive one for materialistic reasons, but I swear, she chose the upholstery to prevent me from selling it.

I may market it on e-bay as the world's ugliest recliner. That should hopefully draw a crowd of bidders.
