Ha, thanks for checking up -- I've been gone on a golf trip to Myrtle Beach with 15 other guys from work. In seven years of marriage I had never been on a "guy trip" or anything, and now in two months I've had the JP Summit and now Myrtle Beach.
Even though my score sucked due to chipping/putting, I would've made Bill Hartman proud with my consistent power. Won the long drive competition, and on the last day hit nothing buy my 3-wood and still outdrove all other players on every hole. I even found a nasty, brown and softened ball in the woods and played it for a while, hoping to handicap myself and make it fair. Didn't work; I'm just too awesome. Must be related to Chuck Norris:
Nice to be back! I look forward to posting and blogging again and reconnecting to the community.

just a bit of culture shock there OG, lol, Queens to Myrtle. Although the NC and SC areas are becoming more popular retirement type places.
A golf course is a golf course.
The first place I played there, The River Club, I was talking to the starter. He had lived about 4 blocks from where I was living at the time in Queens, retired from a NY Transit job and was just being a starter and playing a lot of golf. It's been my dream ever since.

Echoing Mahler's thoughts, no wonder you out drove the other guys if they were using balls that big!
Great pic btw!

Just got back from this year's Myrtle Beach Trip. 20 guys, 5 days of golf, tons of fun. I'm tan, tired and happy. Here's an overview:
Where We Played
Myrtlewood Golf Club -- Pinehills Course
The Legends -- Heathland Course (we stayed at the Legends, so this was very convenient)
Myrtle Beach National -- Kings North Course
True Blue (by far the best of the trip)
The Legends -- Parkland Course
My Best Hole
The 9th hole at True Blue, a 517-yard par 5, uphill, with a green guarded by a massive, raised sandtrap. Evil. I hit driver off the tee (I'm aggressive and stupid, like Mickelson, but without the moobs), going about 300 and in the middle of the fairway. The angle wasn't ideal, leaving me about 235 yards to the pin, which was right in the front of the green, just 8 yards behind the huge, towering sandtrap. There was a 10mph crosswind from right to left, which would push my left-handed fade even farther sideways than usual.
I hit a 3-wood off the fairway just right, towering into the wind and carrying over toward the pin. Everything looked on line, and I knew I carried over the bunker, but it was blind after that. A few minutes later I drove up and saw my ball just off the green, about 18 feet from the pin. It would be a simple, uphill chip from there.
I waited seven or eight minutes while my playing partners explored every nook and cranny of the massive hole with their wayward shots. I was glad to be missing out on that experience. One guy hit four straight shots from the evil bunker before surrendering, still in it. Finally it was my turn. I walked up to the ball with my trusty 9-iron (my fave for chipping) and hit it true. Two small hops, a smooth roll, and right into the center of the cup. Eagle. My first ever. On one of the toughest holes in Myrtle Beach. I went on to birdie/par/par the other long par 5s at True Blue. They were my beyotch. I won't mention what the par 3s did to me, though.
My Worst Hole
3rd hole at Kings North, a simple, 342-yard dogleg left, par 4 (we were playing from the gold tees that day). I was sharing a cart with our CEO, also a lefty, and his game had completely collapsed. Like Charles Barkley-caliber collapse. He would totally pause at the top of his backswing, stuck like a wax figure. Except his knees and wrists would wobble all over the place. It was literally painful to watch, and I had to watch every shot. Plus the fact that he was a lefty made it impossible for me to watch his nightmare without it impacting my swing. By the 3rd hole, I was already in trouble.
I duffed my drive 40 yards, not even reaching the women's tees. Duffed my 3-wood. Pulled my 4-iron right, into the massive, waste area bunker that ran along the right side of the fairway. Jumped into the bunker, sitting nearly 200 yards away from the hole, and had to knock it in for par. Whiffed. Total whiff. Hadn't happened in at least 10 years, but I completely missed the ball with my 5-iron. The guys were generous and didn't count it as a stroke, so I proceeded to duff it 5 yards, still in the bunker. Next shot was true, but in another bunker just right of the green. Sixth shot, out of the bunker, was a flyer, all the way across the green and into the trees. I picked up the ball out of the trees, and took the maximum double-par score of 8, without ever reaching the green.
My Prize
There were contests all weekend, and I won the prize for "Closest To Handicap" on the scoring. Amazingly, I won the same thing last year. Lucky for me, though, the prize was different. Last year I got a new golf bag (sorely needed), and this time I won this putter. Don't need a putter, but its value is insanely high, so I will be trading it in for some other goodies.
Hopefully the golfers in here enjoyed this little recap. If not, then bite me -- I got to go on a five-day golf trip!

p.s. -- On the topic of massive drives, one of mine on Thursday was measured at 342 yards, on a flat, wet fairway with no wind assistance. On Monday I hit a 3-wood over 310 yards off the fairway surface, but there was a strong wind behind me.
Throughout the weekend all the guys teased me mercilessly about being a "health nut" with my eating. Yet they also talked about my hitting power. They never seemed to put the two together.

Sweet!
I've had a handful of tap-in birdies, but no eagles in 26 years of golf. I've witnessed a few (including a tap-in eagle that was resting on the lip of the cup for double eagle), but never made one.

Did you follow correct golf etiquette upon not reaching the women's tees (I'm sure you know what I mean :p)?

I most certainly know what you mean. And I most certainly did NOT!
Oh, I almost forgot, these were my two best quotes of the weekend:
Buddy: So could the "autopilot" on these planes actually land the plane too?
Me: Yes, eventually.
The next one requires some context. A van full of guys had been bragging about their sexual prowess for several minutes, while I stayed silent. Doers don't need to brag. Then this opening came up:
Buddy: Hey, did you see that limo? That thing was stretched. Have you ever seen a stretch Hummer? I stretched a Hummer once.... for 45 minutes. Heh, heh, heh.
Me: Impressive. How did you keep your jaw from getting tired?

Sounds like a dream weekend. Nice job on the eagle - feels good doesn't it. Like you actually know what you're doing...
What did you win in the long-drive contest? I won a sand wedge a few years ago, a nice Ben Hogan (one of my hero's BTW) model, traded it in on a 60-degree Riveira Model....very nice. I think it was at Golf Galaxy.
Tough round with the boss. I had to play in an outing with mine a couple years ago, where he proceeded to get sloshed within about 4 holes and then started talking about what good "shape" his wife was in...nice.
Good to have you back Red, place hasn't been the same without you. Hope it was a relaxing weekend.

Well done on the eagle....i'd love to get one (even a birdie would be nice). My rounds usually consist of a few pars and the rest bogies/doubles.

Zip. My longest was on Thursday, when there were no prizes. Then on the Friday/Saturday/Sunday rounds, someone in the final group magically passed me by a few feet, when there was nobody else there to verify it. No biggie; I still got the putter, which was a better prize anyway.
Kingkop, my rounds are usually the same as yours. Even on the day I had eagle/birdie/par/par on the Par 5 holes, I still shot an 85. And that was by far my best round of the weekend.
Fun stuff!

85 isn't anything to scoff at Dude!! Especially on those courses...and considering you're swinging from the wrong side of the ball (bet you never heard that one before).

Congrats on the Eagle Red. Sounds like a great weekend. I hope to go on one of these one day. I love to play some golf, but I am not the best golfer by no means. Usually shoot in the 90's.

I am officially jealous... Jealous you play so well, and that you got to take a 5 day golf trip with the guys.
My goal this year is to get my game to the "non-embarrassing" status (Russ can attest for how bad my game is, but he won't mention any scores or a funny picture of him will appear on this web site! )
Well, guess we'll have to tee off once I get back to "The Rock" JP. I am equally as horrible I can assure you. Not to mention I haven't played in about a year now.
