No marks, but internet "fame". It's a fair exchange.

3-4-5 Triangle...I would have given him (or her) points for creativity and entertainment value alone. Hopefully he won't be designing bridges either.
Mahler's post count...couldn't find that x for a while earlier this year.

For the geometrically challenged, it is called the Pythagorean Theorem.
a(squared) + b(squared) = c(squared) where a & b are the legs of a right triangle and c is the hypotenuse. Using the forumula you can find the length of a,b or c when the lengths of the other two are known. Since the 3,4,5 are whole numbers the combination is a classic teaching example.

Thats just the tip of the iceberg. The theorem is much more powerful in applied work.

The Pythagorean theorem is for pussies. The Law of Cosines is the real meat and potatoes. (the pythagorean theorem is a special case of the law of cosines, where theta=90 degrees)
I have to wonder why the test creator wrote "find x" when it would have been more accurate to say, "calculate x." The test-taker actually did follow the directions.
